Summer in Chicago will soon get more exciting, especially for swimmers.
The Chicago Park District announced outdoor pools will open on Friday – two days earlier from last year – and will remain open through Labor Day.
In a press release, the park district said it’s expanding access to swimming, recreation and heat relief for residents across the city.
After restoring seven-day outdoor pool operations last year, this year’s pool season will be extended by an additional week. Outdoor pools are expected to be up and running seven days a week, with up to eight hours a day in operation throughout the summer.
“Because of our successful early recruitment efforts and the dedication of more than 700 trained lifeguards, we are able to expand access while ensuring our beaches, indoor pools and outdoor pools are fully staffed and ready for a safe and enjoyable summer,” Chicago Park District Superintendent and CEO Carlos Ramirez-Sosa said in a news release.
According to the park district, a total of 27 indoor and 50 outdoor pools will be open throughout the summer.
Pools at Hamlin, Holstein and Turkey Park are expected to reopen in July as maintenance improvements remain underway.
Humboldt Park Beach will also open on Friday, operating daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Pools will operate on an adjusted holiday schedule on June 19, July 3 and July 4 in observance of Juneteenth and Independence Day.
