Baylor Swim Club’s Ethan Gover has announced his commitment to in-state Louisville as a member of the Cardinals’ 2026 recruiting class.
Gover wrote the following regarding his commitment.
I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be continuing my athletic and academic career at the University of Louisville. First I want to thank God for helping me through my journey. I also want to thank my family and friends for guiding me on this path. Gover hails from Danville, Kentucky, and attended Baylor School in Chattanooga. This past February, Gover finished 2nd in a pair of races at the TISCA State Championships. In the 50 free, he entered finals as the top seed with a prelims swim of 20.38, before finishing runner-up in finals in 20.30. Gover also went into finals as the top seed in the 100 free at 44.83. He then clocked a career-best 44.40 in the finals to finish 2nd.
Arguably, his best meet came just a few weeks later at the TNAQ Speedo Southern Premier, where he clocked several of his most notable best times. In the 100 free, Gover downed his recently set best time from the TISCA Championships in 44.15, finishing 2nd in the event. He also added a 6th place finish in the 200 free, clocking a career-fastest 1:36.79. His final best time came in the 100 fly, touching 22nd overall in 50.65. Gover did place 3rd at that meet in the 50 free in 20.28, but was just off his best time of 20.14 from January.

50 free: 20.14 100 Free: 44.15 200 Free: 1:36.79 100 Fly: 50.65 200 IM: 1:54.42The Louisville men finished 4th at the 2026 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships this past season, scoring 844 points, 129 points behind 3rd-place NC State.
When comparing Gover’s best times to those of the current ACC, he would have finished 53rd in the 200 free, tied for 52nd in the 50 free, and 59th in the 100 free.
Gover’s skillset is pretty specific, sprint freestyle, and that’s roughly the extent of it. But in the growing age of sprint freestyle, his base times coming in could be a solid long-term project for the Cardinals.
This past season, the Cardinals were graced with an outstanding freshman season from Nikita Sheremet, who burst onto the scene and quickly established himself as a top sprinter in the country early into his Louisville days. One thing about him was that he kept getting faster throughout the season, which could be what is on the horizon for Gover.
The 200 free could be where Gover gets his hands dirty early, as the Cardinal men only scored 24 points as a team in that event at the ACC Championships, in comparison to the 53 they earned in the 50 free and the 28 in the 100 free.
Gover joins Aidan Kaplan, Lucas Jue, and Chase Knopf in the 2026 recruiting class for Louisville.
