Day 34 of the Chicago Bears offseason. Waking up in time to watch the Olympic Hockey Gold Medal Game and not having to get out of bed to witness the US victory over Canada (because I could stream the game on my phone) was a nice technology win. It is the first US men’s hockey gold medal win since 1980. To say it is long overdue would be an understatement. And now that I’m thinking of it, you know who else won a championship in the 1980s and is long overdue for one…
Before we dive into some Bears thoughts, I wanted to start this post by sending my condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Rondale Moore. Moore was found dead from what is reportedly believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 25 years old. Moore was a second-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2021 and played 39 games with the team from 2021-23 before bouncing around to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024 and Minnesota Vikings in 2025. While at Purdue University, Moore was a star who was a Consensus All-American, first-team All-Big Ten performer, and the conference’s Receiver of the Year award winner in 2018. A healthy Moore was a treat to watch in college. May he rest in peace. The NFL is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Rondale Moore. — Jeff Brohm (@JeffBrohm) February 22, 2026Rondale Moore had one of the greatest individual performances I've ever seen vs. #2 Ohio State in 2018.He was a True Freshman and completely tore apart a top-ranked defense.Truly a joy to watch him compete. Gone way too soon.Rest in Peace ? pic.twitter.com/7XIcSOrdmC
— Coach Dan Casey (@CoachDanCasey) February 22, 2026 There is no smooth transition from that topic to the rest of this set of Sunday notes, so I’ll use this moment to share a reminder to check on your friends, family members, and loved ones. Reach out. Take the call. Answer the text. Check in with your people. The latest from the Bears stadium saga is as predictable as they come. Just two days after Indiana’s day in the sun, Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren seemingly walked back the statements he made that were framed as a team commitment to building in the Hoosier StateBears president/CEO Kevin Warren to Danny Ecker at Crain’s: “We continue to work with Illinois’ leadership and appreciate the progress being made.”[image or embed]
— Kevin Fishbain (@kfishbain.bsky.social) February 21, 2026 at 4:34 PM This is why I struggled to take a stance that suggested the Bears were closing in on moving the team to Indiana. Is it a possibility? Yes. But there is so much that needs to happen before it becomes a reality. And, frankly, it still might not become a reality even if that stuff *DOES* happen. This situation has been nothing short of an annoying mess. I look forward to seeing this storyline’s conclusion. Speaking of the Indiana proposal to be the next home of Bears football, it is getting mixed reviews from Porter County officials — in part because of some taxes that are part of the deal. Among them is a 1 percent food and beverage tax. The team also reportedly asked for a 10 percent innkeepers tax, but the county already has a 5 percent innkeepers tax and does not want to raise it. Let this serve as a reminder that public money that goes toward private stadium projects often comes from a collection of taxes that are levied here and there. As you might expect, the Chicago Bears are well-represented in the league’s ranking of the year’s top plays:#DaBears really were the NFL’s best story of the year in 2025 pic.twitter.com/hRbDNhuqBi
— Bleacher Nation Bears (@BN_Bears) February 21, 2026 Of course, the Bears had three of the NFL’s top plays in 2025. There wasn’t an NFL story that was more compelling than what was happening with Chicago’s football team. I hope we have more years like the last one in the future. Pro Football Focus wrapped up its list of 101 best NFL players. The Bears landed three members, which is pretty neat to me. Because I’ve seen some Bears fans share their interest in potential free agent running back Breece Hall, I’m sharing this from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler (via Twitter/X): “The Jets are weighing all options with Breece Hall’s future, including a tag and/or an effort toward a long-term deal. Some inside league expect the transition tag for Hall (around $11.7M), but that’s yet to be determined.” I love when Jacob shares his NFL Draft thoughts:I think you can sum up the #Bears’ DT options in Round 1 like this:• Dream pick: Peter Woods• Run-stuffer with upside: Kayden McDonald• Boom-or-bust: Caleb Banks• Least sexy but high floor: Christen Miller• Inconsistent but toolsy as hell: Lee Hunter pic.twitter.com/y3tSy7cBeZ
— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) February 21, 2026 For what it’s worth: The latest mock draft from teammate Patrick Flowers has the Bears taking Ohio State interior defensive lineman Kayden McDonald with the No. 25 pick. Meanwhile, this mock draft drawn up by Matt Rooney has Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods falling to Chicago’s football team. On the surface, both players look like solid prospects who could fit nicely into a defensive line rotation that gets coached up by Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen.FOLLOW BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky
