Part of the challenge was context. While Nahshon Wright thrived amid the chaos as he led the league with 10 turnovers, Stevenson struggled to capitalize on his opportunity. The talent remains obvious. The reliability remains the question.

Stevenson is heading into the fourth and final year of his rookie contract. The four-year rookie-scale deal signed after the Bears used a second-round pick on him in the 2023 NFL Draft and came with a total value of $6,449,502 and included more than $3.48 million in fully guaranteed money. Stevenson is set to make $3.605 million in base salary and $422,637 in bonuses. If the Bears decide to move on from Stevenson, they could clear $3.605 million in cap space with just $422,637 in dead money.

Tyrique Stevenson enters 2026 at a crossroads, and his immediate future could hinge on what the Bears do with Nahshon Wright in free agency. If Wright (who says he wants to stay with the Bears) commands a sizable deal elsewhere, Stevenson likely gets another opportunity to reclaim a full-time role. But even if Wright’s departure in free agency clears a path to playing time for Stevenson, he will still enter camp with pressure to perform.
At this point, Stevenson profiles as a traits-based corner who needs refinement. He possesses the necessary physicality, ball skills, and competitive edge to be a standout starting cornerback in the NFL. What the Bears need from him now (and moving forward) is discipline, technique, and fewer explosive plays allowed. Another year of growth could quickly reset the narrative.
If Tyrique Stevenson tightens the coverage and limits the big gains this season, then his 2025 campaign will likely be re-framed as a learning year. If not, the Bears may start looking elsewhere for long-term answers opposite Jaylon Johnson.
