Windsor’s Public Works department makes an effort through the winter to keep the town’s roads safe.
The town celebrated their hard work with a unique tree lighting ceremony Tuesday at the Public Services Campus, 922 N. 15th St. There, five layers of bright orange traffic cones are stacked high like a Christmas tree, with a “Slow” sign capping the tree where a star or angel would normally sit.
Though there’s little evidence remaining of last week’s snowfall — and none in the forecast through next week — Windsor’s snow removal team is prepared for the season. The town consists of 273 center-lane miles of streets, according to the town website, and that number can triple or even quadruple when factoring in additional lanes.

When moderate snowfall occurs, the town also addresses residential streets and paved alleys, and when major snowfall accumulates, the town evaluates cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets for plowing as resources allow.
