Jalen Brunson Hands Chicago an Ugly 30-Point Loss: Bulls 105-135 Knicks! ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

If you were tuning in for a hard-fought matchup between the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks, similar to the last time these two teams met, look away. This one is not for you.

A flat performance on both ends of the floor, with the Bulls digging themselves into a hole so deep that they could only make matters worse. Chicago picked up its seventh loss of the season tonight at the hands of the Knicks, with a final score of 135-105. The result leaves them tied for the worst record in the league, with plenty of tough competition still ahead on the schedule.

Let’s break it down.

Bulls forwards Matas Buzelis and Jalen Smith defend Knicks guard Jalen Brunson.

The Moment the Bulls Lost the Game

Eight games played. Zero first quarters in which the Chicago Bulls have come out with a lead. And tonight, they got off to about as ugly a start as you could possibly imagine.

The Bulls allowed the Knicks to score 43 points while managing less than half of that themselves, putting up just 21. 2026 NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, all by himself, had more points than the entire Chicago team combined: 22-21.

Caleb Wilson and Matas Buzelis had zero points in the first quarter. On top of that, even when switched onto Brunson, they were getting cooked by the All-NBA-caliber guard, who is half a foot shorter than either of them.

And no, things didn’t get any better. That 22-point deficit only grew in the second quarter, ballooning to as many as 37 points. The Bulls missed 20 consecutive 3-pointers, helping the Knicks run up the score and put up an astonishing 84 points in the first half. That’s tied with a Knicks franchise record by the way.

To make matters worse, Jalen Smith, the team’s only reliable and available big man, landed awkwardly and injured his wrist early in the second quarter. He did not return.

With Nic Claxton’s return postponed and Zach Collins being both a defensive cone and a foul liability, the Bulls were forced to give Patrick Williams a shot in his season debut.

This game was lost off the tip. The incessant need to keep shooting threes when you’re already the worst shooting team in the league is baffling. I get attempting them. But when they’re not falling, move on. Find better shots. You don’t have to try to make up the deficit entirely from behind the arc.

Outside of that, the Knicks were simply on fire offensively. It was a combination of atrocious Bulls defense and an outstanding Knicks offense, which shot an unreal 62.5% from the field and 50% from three in the first half.

The lights were too bright for the Bulls at MSG, and this was only the first half. At this rate, the onslaught had the potential to reach record-breaking lows for Chicago.

Pseudo Silver Lining

We always try to find the flashes of promise, but man, it was so hard tonight. The Bulls lost the third quarter by just two points. Yay?

I weirdly liked Patrick Williams’ minutes a lot more than Zach Collins’. Although, that’s probably more a reflection of my disdain for Zach’s play. Still, props to P-Will. He was arguably the only player in a Bulls uniform who showed any real defensive effort tonight.

Get Zach Collins off the floor. Please.

Jaylin Sellers knocked down a few shots in garbage time, which could warrant a slight bump in minutes, especially with the team struggling so much from behind the arc. He finished with 14 points, shooting 4-of-7 from three.

Tre Jones was the best player on the floor for the Bulls tonight. He was incredibly efficient, put up a season-high 14 points and just looked good out there. And that’s about it, really.

Everyone else, Caleb Wilson included, had a very rough night. This is one of those games where it’s probably best to have a goldfish memory and move on rather than dwell on it for too long. Very few takeaways here that we didn’t already know.
