It’s game day, Bulls fans!
A rematch with the reigning NBA champions, the New York Knicks. It’s a difficult matchup on paper, but the Bulls did put up a good fight the last time these two faced off this season. Maybe head coach Tiago Splitter has figured them out and can come up with a game plan to get Chicago the win.
At least, that’s what we can hope for. But the numbers suggest that the Chicago Bulls need a new starting five. We’ll get into that today, along with Nic Claxton’s potential return tonight, Dwyane Wade singing Caleb Wilson’s praises, and another former Bull finding a new home with an NBA contender.
Let’s talk Bulls basketball.
Chicago Bulls center Nic Claxton poses during Media Day. The Chicago Bulls are making the trip to the Big Apple to play at the Mecca of basketball against the reigning NBA champions, the New York Knicks. Games at Madison Square Garden almost always deliver a great show. And an angry Caleb Wilson, looking to vent his frustrations with a big performance, certainly feels like something that could be on the cards tonight. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the Bulls can win. More likely than not, they’ll be adding a seventh loss to their season record unless they make some changes quickly. And that first change, perhaps the biggest one, needs to start with the starting five. According to the numbers, the Bulls’ starting five is one of the most-used five-man lineup combinations in the NBA this season, yet it has a plus-minus of -15. It’s not the worst in the league, but it’s certainly not a combination that’s working. Most played 5-man lineup combinations so far this season… pic.twitter.com/tiSrx3AKum
— Basketball University (@UofBasketball) November 3, 2026 No defense and a struggling offense aren’t exactly a recipe for success. But that starting lineup could look a little different tonight with the potential return of Nic Claxton. Earlier this week, Claxton was expected to return, and in the last game, his status was upgraded from OUT to DOUBTFUL. Tonight, he’s taken another step forward, moving from DOUBTFUL to QUESTIONABLE. His return could come as early as tonight, or at the latest, in the rematch against the Philadelphia 76ers later this week. Not that I think relegating Jalen Smith to the bench is necessarily the answer, especially considering he’s been one of the team’s best players. But perhaps that’s exactly the change this starting five needs.Nic Claxton (hamstring) has been upgraded to questionable ahead of tomorrow night at MSG. He’s been practicing with the team, and sounds like he’s holding up without setbacks. Splitter wouldn’t indicate when they’d target his return, but he appears close.
— Joel Lorenzi (@JoelXLorenzi) November 3, 2026 Speaking of Caleb Wilson, his impressive start to the season has certainly caught the attention of the NBA media world. The latest member of the Caleb Wilson fan club is none other than Chicago-born NBA legend and former Bulls guard Dwyane Wade. On the latest episode of his ‘Time Out’ podcast, titled ‘Inside the Game with Dwyane Wade: Analyzing the Top Rookies & Around the League,’ Wade had plenty of praise for the Bulls rookie. He said:“Go down to my hometown, where we have been missing a star player or a player that we can look at that we feel that could be a star player. Obviously, Jimmy grew into that, his time in Chicago. Before Jimmy, it was Derrick Rose, before Derrick Rose, kind of a gap since MJ.”
“Caleb Wilson, he gives you that outlook right now. He keep developing, he keep growing, because he has the personality that you love from your star player. Probably a nice kid away from the game of basketball. When he’s on that court, when he step between them lines, he got that dog mentality. And that’s what you want. You want that from your main guy. You’re looking at him as a centerpiece to say, ‘All right, we can build around this guy’”
Wade didn’t stop there. He continued by drawing comparisons between Caleb Wilson and Hall of Fame big man Kevin Garnett.“I told you last time, I said, ‘He reminds me of Kevin Garnett. He got that KG kind of aura about him. Very early. What I love about him is right now every aspect of his game is not clicking and working yet. We know he can shoot the outside shot. Those things take a little while to kind of get going. But his activity, his defensive rebounding, his slashing, his cutting, just his assertiveness to the game”
The KG comparisons make a lot of sense when you remember that Garnett also started his career with a struggling Minnesota Timberwolves team. Hopefully, Wilson gets to stick around and build something special in Chicago rather than eventually having to find success elsewhere. And finally, some news on a former Bulls draft pick, Dalen Terry. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Terry has agreed to a two-year deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder suddenly find themselves thin on the wings following the near season-ending injuries to Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace. I doubt Terry will be able to fill that kind of gap, but he’s one of the few available wings on the roster who could actually get a decent run with this Thunder team. A fresh opportunity for the former Bull, nonetheless.G/F Dalen Terry has agreed on a two-year deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, sources tell ESPN. Terry enters his fifth NBA season after the former No. overall 18 pick spent time in Chicago and Philadelphia, and went to training camp with Golden State last month. pic.twitter.com/JlVzvyRcC4
