Blackhawks 3, Panthers 5 — Three Stars, Key Takeaways ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

In recent games, the Blackhawks have started fast and taken a lead. That was not the case tonight, as the Panthers grabbed the lead less than five minutes into the contest. The first goal came off a neutral zone turnover by Teuvo Teräväinen. Almost eight minutes later, the Panthers extended the lead to two on a power play goal from Carter Verhaeghe; he scored just 28 seconds into the advantage. The Blackhawks put very little pressure on the Panthers until the final four minutes of the opening 20. Artyom Levshunov did draw a penalty with ten second left in the frame that carried over to start the second, however.

The Blackhawks had a couple okay looks at the net on the power play, but the closest scoring chance was a Lars Eller short-handed shot that hit the crossbar. Chicago didn’t score on that power play or a second one later in the period. The Hawks’ speed started to show, but sloppy passing cost them again. The third goal was salt in the wound: Seth Jones beat Spencer Knight. Thankfully the Hawks were able to at least get one goal before the end of 40 minutes to avoid a shutout.

Almost half of the third period was pretty break-even with some shoving behind the play and a few decent looks for either side. A short-handed goal for the Blackhawks in the middle of the period could have given the younger team some energy and momentum… it did not. Another bad goal for Knight to give up pushed the lead back to two just 89 seconds later. The Blackhawks clawed back to within one goal late in the third, though. But an empty net goal with 87 seconds left closed the books on a hard-fought third period effort that came up short. Again.

Star 1: Frank Nazar

The Blackhawks were flat in the third period until Nazar exploded up the ice and FINALLY finished a breakaway for a short-handed goal to get the Hawks within one goal in the middle of the period.

With just under four minutes left in regulation, Nazar came off the bench and absolutely launched one to get the Blackhawks within one a second time on the night. You could see Nazar and the Blackhawks’ captain trying to drag their teammates into the fight in the third period, and Nazar hit the back of the net twice. It was great to see him finally get a couple because he’s had so many great looks this season that haven’t finished.

Star 2: Connor Bedard

Bedard had three of the Blackhawks’ ten scoring chances thru two periods. He made a strong play at the blue line to hold the puck in and start the first scoring play for the Hawks. He also led the team with two hits in the opening 40 minutes. Bedard was physically engaged the entire night — something I can’t say about a few of his teammates. His assist on the Kantserov goal extended his personal point streak to seven games. Bedard picked up an assist on Nazar’s second goal as well for a two-point night.

Star 3: Roman Kantserov

Things looked bleak for the Blackhawks but Kantserov scored late in the second period to extend his personal point streak to six games off a nice play by Bedard. Kantserov moved into the rookie goal scoring lead with his seventh of the season. He also quietly won 10 of 14 faceoffs in the game.

Key Takeaways

The Blackhawks should have called Metra to clean up the trainwreck that was their neutral zone passing. The TNT studio crew absolutely cooked the Blackhawks during the first intermission.

Biz on the Blackhawks: “I don’t see a lot of identity. I see a soft team. They don’t check well, they don’t forecheck well. They don’t really do anything well.” pic.twitter.com/RG28XTv959

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 5, 2026 Ethan Del Mastro had an assist on both of the Blackhawks’ goals. He played well tonight. According to Natural Stat Trick, scoring chances were 10-5 in favor of Florida the opening 20 minutes, but high danger chances were 3-3. Officially, shots on net were 10-5 in favor of the Panthers. In the second period (at all strengths), both teams attempted 18 shots. Florida had a 10-9 shot on net advantage. However, the Panthers had a 13-5 advantage in scoring chances and 5-4 edge in high danger chances. Oliver Moore had three of the Blackhawks’ seven high danger chances thru two periods. The one line that was okay in the first period was Bedard with Kantserov and Tyler Bertuzzi — and that’s with the asterisk of the scoring chance against the Biz broke down. In 5:12 of 5-on-5 ice time together, the Blackhawks had a 3-0 shot advantage in the first period. Bedard had two shots on net and won one of five faceoffs in the first period. Anton Frondell won 4 of 9 faceoffs in the first period. Ryan Greene won 4 of 7 in the first. At the end of two periods, both Frondell and Greene was 50 percent at the dot; Frondell won 6 of 12 while Greene won 5 of 10. Frondell won 8 of 15 in the game. Greene won 8 of 16 in the game. Teuvo Teräväinen skated 90 seconds at 5-on-5 in the second period, and only 2:34 total (six shifts). He got fewer shifts (four) in the third period than he did in the second. Sam Rinzel went to the room for repairs and missed about seven minutes of the second period. He did return for the final three minutes of the period, though. Dillon Boucher made his NHL debut tonight. Congrats!
