Resurrection Chrisitan’s Ben Reeser named CHSCA volleyball coach of the year ...Saudi Arabia

Sport by : (GreeleyTribune) -

Resurrection Christian volleyball coach Ben Reeser has been named the Colorado High School Coaches Association coach of the year.

Reeser received the award prior to the championship matches at the state tournament Nov. 15 at the Denver Coliseum.

The presentation came just a couple of hours after the Cougars completed another deep run in the 3A state tournament, losing in the semifinals to Patriot League rival Eaton.

It was the fourth year in a row RCS advanced to the semifinals. They finished the season with a 26-4 record with two of those losses coming against Eaton and another against The Classical Academy in the second round of the state tournament.

Their fourth loss came in the championship match of the Colorado Invite tournament in Colorado Springs where they took Class 5A state champion Valor Christian to five sets.

Reeser joined RCS in 2019, and the Cougars already had a tradition of winning. They were just a few years removed from winning 2A state titles in 2013 and 2014 and finishing as the runner-up in 2015.

In Reeser’s first season, the Cougars went 13-12 and missed the state tournament. That hasn’t happened again since he has been the team’s head coach.

During the COVID-shortened 2020 season, the Cougars went 10-5 and lost in an eight-team single-elimination state tournament.

In 2021, the Cougars went 24-3 with two of those losses coming in the state tournament. In 2022, they went 20-9 and lost in the semifinals.

A year later, in 2023, the Cougars won their first state championship in Class 3A, going 22-9 and defeating University in four sets in the final.

Reeser was named CHSAA 3A coach of the year following the team’s championship run.

In 2024, the Cougars went 25-6 and lost in the semifinals to The Village.

This past season, RCS started 17-0 before losing to the Reds in league play. They wouldn’t lose again until the Colorado Invite final where they took the first two sets from Valor Christian before losing the last three.

They lost their first game at the state tournament to The Classical Academy the same way, winning the first two sets before losing the next three. But they won their way back to the semifinals where they fell in four sets to Eaton.

After the match that ended their season, Reeser gave the credit to his players, especially the team’s three seniors, and not himself.

“This group of seniors is an extraordinarily special one,” he said. “All three are going to play college volleyball. All three are extraordinary contributors to our culture and doing things the right way. We don’t always do things the right way, but they want to and they desire to do things the right way and treat others the right way and play hard, play together and it means the world to us.

“Our culture is built on great humans that are part of our program. Coaches can only do so much. Great humans that are part of our program change things.”

Those three seniors are first-team all-state middle hitter Kaylynn Pardue, all-state honorable mention libero Blake Coors and outside hitter Amanda Pardue.

Among the returning players next fall will be second-team all-state setter Kylee Mayes and all-state honorable mention outside/middle hitter Paige Michaelson. Mayes will be a junior, and Michaelson will be a sophomore.

Reeser will take a 140-48 record into his eighth season at RCS next fall, where the team will look to carry on the program’s culture and tradition that has been elevated during his tenure.
