For the first time since April, we can officially say the Chicago Bulls play basketball this week.
The Bulls will suit up for their first of five preseason games on Tuesday night. They will start things off on the road in Cleveland before returning to Chicago for a second meeting with the Cavaliers on Thursday. Then, after a couple more days in the lab, they will welcome the Milwaukee Bucks to the United Center to finish out the week on Sunday night. Two more games will follow next week before the Bulls rest up for a season-opening meeting with the improving Detroit Pistons. Basketball season is soooo back! A good thing to keep in mind as the team gears up for tomorrow night is that Coby White will remain in street clothes. In fact, there is a very good possibility we do not see him at all. The Bulls have approached White’s return to the court slowly, as the guard suffered a mild calf strain during a workout in August. While fingers are crossed that he’ll be a full go by October 22, it could still be some time before we see him back on the floor. When we consider White’s familiarity with this group, the hope is that integrating him back into the mix shouldn’t be too difficult. At the same time, missing a chunk of training camp almost always creates some obstacles. A lot of this offense is expected to revolve around White’s skills both on and off the ball, so you would love to re-establish that during the exhibition games rather than the ones that count. Coby White of the Chicago Bulls – © Kyle Ross-Imagn Images The good news is that we should get plenty of Noa Essengue this week! While many expect him to spend a lot of time in the G League, these next three games can go a long way toward changing that. Sure, preseason is preseason. You can’t ever read too much into it. However, it’s still a game played at NBA-level speed against NBA-caliber players. Essengue doesn’t even need to post big numbers or have many highlight plays to call this preseason a success. The rookie simply has to minimize mistakes and look the part. If he can hold his own against rotation players, Donovan may have to rethink his usage to start the year. I’ve said it before, but I really do think Essengue’s combination of length and mobility could be enough to earn him some early minutes this season. The Bulls have made it very clear that they want to improve on the defensive end this season, and who’s to say Essengue can’t positively impact this side of the ball right off the bat? We saw Matas Buzelis’ instincts and verticality do precisely that last season, especially as a help-side rim protector. We all know the Bulls have very few high-level defenders on their current roster, and Essengue has all the raw tools to be very good in this department. Chicago Bulls Share Early Thoughts on Noa Essengue’s Year 1 Plan So I came across an absolutely bonkers Coby White stat this morning. Social account “Extra Stats” shared the league leaders in transition points per possession points since the 2015-16 season. Giannis Antetokounmpo or Russell Westbrook finished atop the league every single year … until 2024-25. White recorded 1.28 points per possession (528 total) during last season’s breakout campaign. That’s elite stuff! White has continued to improve as an all-around scorer, but his bread-and-butter remains in the fastbreak. He is one of the fastest players in the open floor, and his improvements as a ballhandler have only made him scarier. He finished third in total fastbreak points scored last season behind only Christian Braun and former teammate Zach LaVine. Honestly, the more we see White in a post-LaVine world, the more it makes sense why the Bulls chose to go with one over the other. They are becoming pretty darn similar.League leader in transition points, since tracking began in 2015-16.Giannis was finally dethroned, though not by much (he was 2nd, with 521 points). pic.twitter.com/EKL83REpdk
— Extra (@extrastats) October 5, 2025 Hit up Music Box Theater yesterday to see One Battle After Another and stopped in the record store next door. The only thing faster than Coby White in transition was me grabbing the MJ Come Fly With Me VHS I saw on the shelf …Absolutely iconic find today … pic.twitter.com/He52INr6Gs

I know it sounds silly, but this really is one of the reasons why I’m betting the over on this team. Time and again, this head coach has proven to get the best out of young, makeshift rosters.Umm ok this is pretty awesome! Not sure Bulls fans have ever seen Billy Donovan this intense. Vibes feeling a little different during this training camp. (? @chicagobulls) pic.twitter.com/gfhm7w0skx
