Brewers vs Rays — Obviously, every game of the World Series is important, but there’s a pretty gigantic difference between being down 3-0 and being down 2-1. The former is a death sentence. The latter is overcomeable. And fortunately for the Rays (and my mental health), the pitching matchup should favor Tampa Bay tonight, as a refreshed Freddy Peralta, who has dominated since August (including the playoffs) is taking the mound against his former team. Nice little side-story there. I’m sure it’ll be the focus of the broadcast tonight.
Likewise, the Brewers tend to play a lot worse on the road. So, we’ll see if that helps. Normally, around this time, I want the World Series to end so we can get to the postseason, but … I’ll be happy if this one goes to seven games if it means the Brewers lose.
Milwaukee Brewers Lineup:
Jackson Chourio, LF Jake Bauers, 1B Christian Yelich, DH William Contreras, C Brice Turang, 2B Garrett Mitchell, CF Cooper Pratt, SS Sal Frelick, RF David Hamilton, 3BTampa Bay Rays Lineup:
Yandy Diaz, DH Ryan Vilade, 1B Chandler Simpson, LF Junior Caminero, 3B Ben Williamson, 2B Jonny DeLuca, CF Victor Mesa Jr., RF Nick Fortes, C Taylor Walls, SSPitching Matchup:
Milwaukee Brewers: Robert Gasser, LHP
Robert Gasser was “good, not great” this season for the Brewers, making 20 starts with a 3.87 ERA, but far more meh peripherals (4.23 FIP). But while he doesn’t necessarily excel in any one area, he’s pretty solid across the board, with slightly better than average marks in most categories (besides groundball rate).
He also struggles a lot more against right-handed hitters than he does against lefties. With that said, the Rays are WAY worse against lefties (90 wRC+) than they are against righties (110 wRC+), so maybe Gasser can carve ’em up.
Tampa Bay Rays: Freddy Peralta, RHP
After spending so many years with the Brewers, Peralta’s presence in a Milwaukee World Series, but for a non-Brewers team, is an odd twist of fate. Nonetheless, he’s been lights out just a few starts after being traded to the Rays at the deadline, and that includes a 1.08 ERA across 16.2 IP in the 2026 playoffs. The Brewers have beat plenty of good pitching this season/postseason, and they likely know Peralta better than any organization out there. But I wouldn’t bet against Freddy right now. He’s rolling and likely very motivated to deliver (at least) one final argument for a big free agent contract this winter. And that includes, no doubt, from the Cubs.
