Distance freestyler Zoie Fjare has verbally committed to continuing her academic and swimming career at UCLA. She trains with Saint Petersburg Aquatics and attends St. Petersburg High School.

Fjare qualified for the Winter Junior Championships in Greensboro last December, where her top swim came in the 500 free, clocking 4:53.64 to rank 27th in prelims. She also raced the 200 free, taking 76th in 1:51.85, two days after anchoring St. Petersburg’s 800 free relay to a 7th-place finish with a 1:51.54 split.
This past March, Fjare concluded her short course season at the Florida Senior Championship, where she threw down best times in five of her seven events.
She claimed silver in the 1650 free with a lifetime best of 16:27.76, her best of the three distance races. She also touched 5th in the 1000 free (9:59.70) and 6th in the 500 free (4:51.21), with the latter being one of only two events where she didn’t lower her personal best. She also finished 14th in the 200 free at 1:51.45, just off her best. She opened St. Petersburg’s 13th-place 400 free relay in 52.97, and added career bests in prelims of the 100 fly (59.02) and 100 back (1:00.49).

200 Freestyle: 1:51.02 500 Freestyle: 4:49.46 1650 Freestyle: 16:27.76Fjare would have been the fastest miler on UCLA’s roster and their fourth quickest 500 freestyler for the 2024-25 season. Bruin junior Ashley Kolessar led the way in both events this past year, posting times of 4:46.05 and 16:29.49, respectively.
To crack the top 24, which earns points at the Big Ten Championships (the conference in which UCLA competes), a time of 4:46.00 was required. Fjare’s best mile time would have situated her 21st and earned 4 points, giving her immediate scoring potential as a freshman.
UCLA placed 7th out of 14 teams at those Big Ten Championships in their first year in the conference. The previous year, they ranked 4th at the 2024 Pac-12 Championships. The Bruins wrapped up their season at NCAAs in Federal Way, Washington, where they finished 37th. They scored 7 points in total, from junior diver Eden Cheng. The team is led by Head Coach Jordan Wolfrum, who is heading into her seventh season at the helm of the program.
Fjare will join Sara Koike, Mia Bugarin, and Olivia Sina at UCLA in the fall of 2026. Fjare and Bugarin are also freestyle specialists while Sina is a backstroker.
