Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Southern California’s Dylan Blietz will head up the coast this fall to swim and study at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
“I’m excited to share my commitment to swim and study at the University of California, Santa Cruz! I’d like to thank all of my family and friends, especially my parents for supporting me throughout my swimming and academic career. I’d also like to thank my amazing coaches and teammates from the past 12 years at Class Aquatics, especially Coach Steve, who has helped me tremendously throughout my swimming career. Thank you to Coach Crawford and Coach Garlich for giving me this opportunity, and Go Slugs!”
Blietz swam for Westlake High School in Westlake Village, CA. He competed in May at the CIF-Southern Section Division I (fastest section) Championships in the 200 free and 500 free, but his best times in those events, and the 1000/1650 free, came two months earlier at the Ventura County High School Championships (1:44.60 200 free) and the CA/NV Sectionals meet in Oceanside.
In Oceanside, swimming with his club team CLASS Aquatics, he improved his times in the 500 free (4:41.67), 1000 free (9:46.27), and mile (16:20.05) and placed 29th, 28th, and 22nd in the respective events.
Earlier this month, he achieved lifetime bests in the LCM 200/400/800/1500 free at the CA/NV Summer Sectionals in La Jolla. He broke 2:00 for the first time in the 200 (1:58.45), dropped 3 seconds from a brand-new 400 free time to make an 8-second improvement since last summer (4:12.85), went 9.7 seconds faster than his best from last summer in the 800 free (8:50.05), and slashed 18.8 seconds of his previous PB in the 1500 (17:04.33). He also competed at Ocala Futures last weekend and took home a new PB in the 100 free (54.72).
Best SCY times:
1650 free – 16:20.05 1000 free – 9:46.27 500 free – 4:41.67 200 free – 1:44.60UC Santa Cruz is the only University of California campus in NCAA’s Division III. The Banana Slugs won the men’s title at the 2025 Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships. Blietz’s best 1650 time would have scored 6th at the conference meet. He also would have been 7th in the 1000 free (the PCSC includes a number of Division II teams and thus includes the 1000 free at their championship meet), a ‘B’ finalist in the 500 free, and a ‘C’ finalist in the 200 free.
Blietz will join Piedmont Swim Team’s Owen Blanford in the Santa Cruz class of 2029.
