We found out this morning that Tyson Bagent will be the starter for the Chicago Bears in their first preseason game on Saturday, and Bagent ended the afternoon at Halas Hall by nailing Kaden Davis with a touchdown pass to close Thursday’s practice.
By CHGO’s Adam Hoge’s count, that’s the third time Bagent and Davis have hooked up for a score through the air to close a practice in the first three weeks. Bagent spoke after practice and spoke about getting the start this week. “Every rep that I can get out there is an absolute dream come true to me,” Bagent said. A quick recap of this morning’s Ben Johnson media availability, in case you missed it. Caleb Williams and most of the starters will not play on Saturday against Cleveland. Kiran Amegadjie will start at left tackle and will rotate quarters with Jedrick Wills Jr., with Amegadjie taking the first and third quarters and Wills handling the second and fourth quarters. Walker was among the Bears who met with the media after practice on Thursday. Walker is in competition for the No. 3 wide receiver job with rookie Zavion Thomas and veteran Kalif Raymond after a strong start to camp. Walker was asked about that competition this afternoon: “I want them guys to succeed as much as I want myself to succeed,” Walker said. “Everyone is trying to say there’s this competition; it’s always going to be competition, but we’re going to continue to push each other to be better. If they have a question and I know, I’m not going to gatekeep it, and we’re going to help each other out.” Speaking of position battles, rookie cornerback Malik Muhammad got some work outside opposite Jaylon Johnson, according to Chris Kwiecinski. Muhammad has spent time in multiple roles during training camp and will likely see game action on Saturday against the Browns with the starters out. The Bears are off tomorrow before their first preseason game, and then will spend some time in Cincinnati next week, practicing with the Bengals in preparation for their matchup next weekend. Johnson is looking forward to their joint practices with Cincinnati and Tennessee the next two weeks, and alluded to their importance on Thursday. “Where do we stand relative to the rest of the league?” Johnson said. “How good are we?
