Shubman Gill created history with a record-breaking performance in the Edgbaston Test. He scored 269 and 161 in the two innings - the most runs by an Indian captain in a single Test match. Gill helped the team secure an emphatic 336-run victory - their first-ever Test win at the venue in Birmingham.
Gill, who had remembered the pre-match comment about India's past failures at the venue, seemed eager to respond after his match-winning performance.
I Won’t Say Anything That Motivates Shubman Gill - Joe Wilson
A few days after India’s victory, Joe Wilson shared his thoughts on Shubman Gill’s post-match response. Speaking to RevSportz, Wilson admitted that his question about India’s poor record at the venue may have served as extra motivation for Gill and the team to deliver a commanding performance.
"I won't say anything that motivates him," Wilson said when asked if he would change his question before the third Test at Lord's. "I think he's a real gentleman. He answers every question with dignity and intelligence. He's leading his team pretty well in all departments, especially in the media."
What the Captain Said Was Very Sensible - Joe Wilson
"What the captain said was very sensible. If you look back at the 1970s and even the 1980s, there was a very different feel about the Indian Test team here. When they would come aboard and would never really have the expectation to win," Wilson stated.
