Deion Sanders hates late kickoff times and isn’t especially fond of cold weather.
But here he is on Friday the 13th, leading his Colorado football team into a 10 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPN, this time amid chilly temperatures against Stanford (1-4).
It will be a different kind of test for the Buffaloes (4-2), whose first five games came against opponents that were either nationally ranked or a longtime “personal” rival.
Stanford is neither, but the hype will still be there for Coach Prime and the Buffs at Folsom Field. They will be playing in front of their seventh straight sellout crowd and another big audience on national television.
Colorado Buffaloes on Friday for a Pac-12 battle. Stanford (1-4, 0-3) has lost seven consecutive conference games and 17 of its last 18 after being soundly defeated 42-6 by Oregon in its last contest. The Cardinal also have dropped their last three meetings with Colorado (4-2, 1-2), which ended an eight-game losing streak in Pac-12 play with a 27-24 triumph at Arizona State last weekend.
Xavier Edwards waiting in the wings, the younger Sanders should have plenty of weapons to lay waste to a Stanford defense that has looked porous at times.
For some reason Stanford coach Troy Taylor didn't go for two and the win, but what can you do. That's college coaches for ya.
Ayomanor is up to 294 receiving yards and now has three touchdowns, this the best of the bunch
The Buffaloes will be eager to improve upon a performance last week in which they gained only 56 yards on the ground. They did manage to rush for a pair of touchdowns, however, as quarterback Shedeur Sanders scored on a 16-yard run and wide receiver found the end zone from 1 yard out on fourth-and-goal. Colorado should be able to do some damage against a Stanford defense that allowed Oregon to rack up 208 rushing yards last time out.
Colorado will need to pay close attention to Benjamin Yurosek, who leads the Cardinal with 15 catches and 227 receiving yards with one touchdown. The senior ranks 10th in the nation in receiving yards by a tight end and is sixth with an average of 15.1 yards per reception. Yurosek also has gotten involved in Stanford's ground assault this year, rushing eight times for 42 yards after carrying the ball a total of three times in 24 games over his first three seasons.
