Xavier Weaver’s star performance put the game out of reach.

Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter remains on track to play Friday against Stanford (10 p.m. ET, ESPN), but staff will keep an eye on him pregame to make sure he is ready, sources told ESPN.

Hunter, a cornerback and wide receiver who sustained a lacerated liver Sept. 16 against Colorado State, has been cleared to play and has been practicing.

He remains on target to play on both offense and defense. Sources said his snap count will be monitored and that he is not expected to come close to the huge number of snaps he had in the first two games of the season.

For five years in the 1990s, Hall of Famers Deion Sanders and Emmitt Smith were teammates on the Cowboys. They embodied the spirit of America’s most popular sports franchise, marrying flashy aesthetics to unparalleled dominance.

Now, the two Dallas greats have given way to the next generation. Sanders is Colorado’s highly successful first-year coach, with two of his sons starring for the Buffaloes. Smith’s son, E.J. Smith, is a running back at Stanford.

Friday night, the two Cowboys greats’ sons came together on the field. With 9:57 left in the third quarter of the Buffaloes’ home game against the Cardinal, Colorado safety Shilo Sanders tackled Smith behind the line of scrimmage on second-and-goal

Later in the first half, Weaver found himself wide open for a 39 yard touchdown reception.

At the moment, Weaver has 560 yards receiving and four touchdowns on the season. It’s safe to assume he’s now very much in contention for the Biletnikoff Award, honoring the top wide receiver in college football

Barring any unforeseen craziness in the second half, the Buffs will improve to 5-2 heading into the bye. They’ll next face UCLA on October 28th.

Indeed, the Buffaloes passed for 2,075 yards in all of 2022. They entered their game against the Cardinal having thrown for 2,023 yards, a mark they quickly zoomed past en route to a 14-0 lead.

Though sometimes overshadowed in a conference crawling with high-quality quarterback play — USC's Caleb Williams, Oregon's Bo Nix and Washington's Michael Penix Jr., to name a few—Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has proven to be a star-caliber starter beyond his famous last name.
