Even though the Chicago Bears landed the plane on a blockbuster deal before Week 8, when they acquired defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons in a trade with the Tennessee Titans, there is still work to be done. And even though a Khalil Mack reunion has been top of mind lately, it doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards. However, a Nahshon Wright reunion could be in the works.
More from Josina Anderson, a longtime NFL reporter, who had this to say on Twitter/X on Sunday:
My sentiments on #Jets CB Nahshon Wright and a #Bears reunion: Just make it happen already…
It’d clearly be mutually beneficial. The desire is there.
Wright’s time in Florham Park has not gone as planned.
Wright has appeared in only 3 games for the #Jets—exclusively on special teams without a single defensive snap.
This is a glaring fit or utilization issue considering Wright’s potency in Chicago. Nahshon had a breakout season last year with 5 INTs & led the NFL with 8 total individual takeaways.
Wright’s lone Pro Bowl selection (2025) came in the Windy City.
That is an interesting bit of phrasing and framing from Anderson. Anderson’s tweet is giving off the impression that there is mutual interest. Given the Bears’ needs in the secondary, I’m not wholly opposed to seeing the team turn to a familiar face for some help.

The idea of a Nahshon Wright reunion first crossed our mind on Oct. 4 before the Bears-Jets game in Week 4 when the cornerback was a healthy scratch. Weeks later, Wright voiced his frustration to an ESPN reporter about his situation. That led me to write this about the possibility of bringing Wright back as a buy-low depth option:
Nahshon Wright was a Pro Bowler after a 2025 season in which he set career highs in interceptions, passes defended, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, total tackles, tackles-for-loss, and pretty much every notable category you could think of for a defensive back. No one made more performance-based pay last season than Wright. But because of how free agency unfolded, he couldn’t parlay his tremendous 2025 season into a major payday in the offseason.
I understand that some of his success could be brushed away as fluky. But if the price is right, I’d be willing to see the Bears roll the dice on a player who performed at a high level for them last season. Maybe Chicago’s front office can squeeze a late-round pick swap out of the deal to take a disgruntled player off the Jets’ hands. Again, it wouldn’t be the blockbuster deal Bears fans want. And I’m sorry for that in advance. But reacquiring Wright is sensible and logical. At a minimum, we’ll keep an eye on his situation to see what happens.
More recently, NFL insider Ian Rapoport opened the door to a Bears reunion with Nahshon Wright, who like Khalil Mack, could be a helpful piece of the defensive puzzle — albeit at a different level.
“The other interesting one is Nahshon Wright,” Rapoport said in a segment on ESPN. “who was with the Bears last year and is with the Jets now. He’s really not playing. Could that be a name to watch just for some depth? I do not believe that Ryan Poles is done.”
Seeing a lot of smoke here makes me think that the Jets and Bears could work something out. The acquisition cost shouldn’t be much for a deal that Anderson notes would be “mutually beneficial.” If anything, I can see a pick swap between the teams being the most sensible path for a player who wants out and a team that isn’t playing him. It wouldn’t be the reunion Bears fans want, but I’m in a place mentally where I believe any help is good help when it comes to Chicago’s secondary.
