Nicole Eggert is opening up about a part of her cancer battle that goes far beyond doctors’ appointments and treatments: the financial toll.
The Baywatch star, who has been undergoing treatment for breast cancer since her 2023 diagnosis, said in a new interview with Fox News Digital that her treatment schedule made it impossible for her to commit to acting jobs. As a single mother with a teenage daughter still living at home, Eggert had to face the reality that her income could disappear even as her expenses mounted.
“I had to completely come to the realization that I wasn’t going to have income,” Eggert said. “So that’s like an entirely other added stress that I think a lot of people, that’s like last on the list, right? But it’s huge.”

Eggert, 54, explained that she is a “100 percent single parent.” Her older daughter is an adult and independent, but she still has a teenager at home and is responsible for the household.
On top of everyday expenses came the costs associated with her diagnosis and treatment.
“It’s a lot that people don’t really, you can’t even wrap your head around it,” Eggert said. “As I was going along, I was like, ‘Oh, you’re kidding’ [about the cost]. Like, it just, it adds up and it adds up.”
Her profession created another complication. Unlike someone who could potentially work remotely while undergoing treatment, Eggert said she couldn’t commit to a production when she didn’t know whether she’d be available.
“In my line of work, I couldn’t commit to being on any kind of production because I’m going to be in treatment and in and out of treatment, you know, five days, three to five, at least days a week,” she explained. “So it’s not like it’s work from home kind of work.”
But losing her ability to work didn’t make the normal expenses of raising a family disappear.
“And yet the bills don’t stop,” Eggert said. “And the teenagers still need their things. And life needs their things. And the car still needs the gas. And, you know, all of it.”
At one point, Eggert recalled realizing, “I’m underwater here,” and wondering how she was going to make everything work. She said the experience taught her the importance of finding a community and being willing to ask other people for help.

Nicole Eggert Was Diagnosed With Breast Cancer in 2023
Eggert was diagnosed with stage 2 cribriform carcinoma breast cancer in December 2023 after experiencing symptoms that included breast pain and unexplained weight gain.
The actress previously told Fox News Digital that she had been receiving yearly mammograms and ultrasounds because she has dense breast tissue, but looking back, she realized there were other changes she hadn’t recognized as possible warning signs.
Her bra, for example, had begun fitting differently.
“What was actually happening is that the tumor was taking up more space,” Eggert said in a December 2024 interview. “The mass was making that breast bigger. So that’s why my bra was not fitting properly.”
She also acknowledged that she hadn’t been performing breast self-exams at the time. After she began feeling a throbbing sensation, she performed one and discovered the mass.
Eggert subsequently underwent chemotherapy, radiation and surgery as part of her treatment. She had one breast removed and later underwent another mastectomy with reconstruction.

Her medical ordeal continued this year. In March, Eggert revealed that she had undergone a full hysterectomy after test results showed what she described as “early signs of more cancer.”
“What a journey,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “Test results showed early signs of more cancer. I am grateful to my doctors for keeping such a close eye on me.”
Eggert said at the time that the procedure could eliminate the risk of several types of cancer. The surgery followed the breast cancer treatments and surgeries she had already undergone since her original diagnosis.
Throughout the ordeal, Eggert has spoken repeatedly about the role her daughters have played in keeping her moving forward. In an earlier interview with Fox News Digital, she said the prospect of her children losing their mother was one of the most painful parts of confronting the disease.
Now, she’s also talking about another reality that can accompany a serious illness: figuring out how to keep a household functioning when treatment interferes with the ability to earn a living.
“You really have to find your community,” Eggert said, “and you really have to be okay with asking for help.”
