What time does trick-or-treating begin and end in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs this Halloween?
Halloween falls on a spooky Saturday this year, allowing trick-or-treaters to spend longer than usual on their candy collecting.
While the haunting hours vary depending on your location, the most common window this year is from 3 to 7 p.m., according to the website FrightMaps.
Here’s a look at when to have your costume and candy bucket ready for the frightful festivities, or when your doorbell might start to chime.
Chicago
While most suburbs publish their hours ahead of Oct. 31, the city of Chicago does not have designated trick-or-treat times. Hours may vary by neighborhood hours, with some offering Halloween-specific events.
According to Next Door’s Treat Map, Sauganash and Edgebrook are two of Chicago’s most popular neighborhoods for trick-or-treating. While the Edgebrook Sauganash Chamber of Commerce does not have hours posted for Saturday, it’s a safe bet to head out anywhere during the mid-afternoon.
Ravenswood Manor is also commonly regarded as one of the more popular destinations in the city for trick-or-treating, and their hours start and end later than most suburban areas — from 4 to 9 p.m.
“Halloween’s on a Saturday this year. And while trick-or-treaters might be tempted to start early, remember that our neighbors need time to prepare,” the neighborhood association’s website says.
Suburbs
Several suburbs have announced their trick-or-treat times are two hours longer than in years past — running from 2 to 8 p.m. — including Countryside, La Grange, La Grange Park, Hillside and Western Springs.
Some are starting even earlier, like in Summit, from noon to 5 p.m., and Oak Forest, from 1 to 6 p.m.
In Arlington Heights, the times are the same as 2025, from 3 to 7 p.m. Vernon Hills will also run from 3 to 7 p.m., a slight change from previous years.
