Gustin claimed that the actor didn’t want their 12-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, to be at the Daytime Emmys, which happened on Friday, October 30, 2026. She wanted to keep her away from the “Hollywood scene,” per court documents obtained by TMZ.
Burton was nominated at the awards show and wanted his daughter by his side. He claimed that Gustin wouldn’t change days with him.
In alleged text messages given to the court and obtained by TMZ, the soap opera star wrote, “I would like Brook there. Let me know. Thanks. I would pick her up Friday morning and take her back Saturday.”
His ex-wife reportedly responded to him, messaging, “That doesn’t work.” Burton told her, “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime. I’ll be happy to swap days.”
Gustin allegedly replied, “Once in a lifetime lol? I don’t want Brooklyn anywhere near Hollywood or that scene. You plaster her on social media and People magazine enough. Absolutely not.”
In the alleged text messages, The Young and the Restless actor said, “Yes. I’m nominated and would like the girls with me,” adding, “For years you were perfectly comfortable with the lifestyle that came from my career in that world. And even now, your whole business is built from social media, which includes Brooklyn a lot. And it’s not about us plastering Brooklyn all over Hollywood. I’m nominated, and I would love for her to be there with us.”
Gustin did not seem to respond to his message.
Gustin and Burton married in 1999. They were together for 23 years before separating in 2022, with their divorce finalized in December 2023. They have three children together: Makena Grace Burton, Brooklyn Faith Burton, and Jack Marshall Burton.
