Jack Nicholson, 89, has stepped back from the spotlight in recent years, which is why fans surely appreciate that Michael Douglas, 82, has just offered a rare update about his friend and fellow star.
“He’s not working anymore,” Douglas said recently while attending an event in Swansea, Wales, The Independent reported on Friday, Oct. 30. “He’s well. He has disappeared. I know that.”
Douglas, who was in the area to perform his live stage show “One Helluva Ride,” produced One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), which starred Nicholson; however, they never got a chance to appear in a movie together. That’s why Douglas also said, “I would have liked to have acted with Jack.”
“I still see him, but he is fine,” Douglas went on to say. “He is up there by his house and walking around in his slippers. It happens. He deserves it. I understand. He is a few years older than me, but I understand.”
Although Nicholson hasn’t officially announced his retirement — his last role was in 2010’s How Do You Know alongside Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, and Paul Rudd — his longtime friend, producer Lou Adler, noted during a November 2023 interview on the “WTF With Marc Maron” podcast that the star now enjoys spending his time “sitting under a tree and reading a book” as opposed to acting.
Carol Kane also offered an update on Nicholson while talking to The Independent in August 2024. Staying connected ever since appearing together in both Carnal Knowledge (1971) and The Last Detail (1973), she noted that they still keep in touch, saying, “Not a lot, but we keep at it. I make sure to check in on him, and thank goodness he’s still answering my calls.”
When addressing how Nicholson is doing these days, she laughed while saying, “Oh, he’s still Jack.”
