2026 DUTCH QUALIFIERS
Thursday, October 22nd – Sunday, October 25th Rotterdam, Netherlands SCM (25m) SwimSwam Preview Day 1 Recap/Day 2 Recap/Day 3 Recap Live Results LivestreamThe 2026 Dutch Qualifiers wrapped up in Rotterdam last night, but not before additional events were added to swimmers’ lineups for this December’s Short Course World Championships.
Milou van Wijk and Valerie van Roon both met the selection criteria in the women’s 50m free, with the former hitting 23.34 and the latter logging 23.85.
Both swimmers cleared the 24.33 QT, joining Marrit Steenbergen, who already qualified in the event during the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series. Additionally, van Wijk’s performance overtook the former meet record of 23.60 that Marleen Veldhuis put on the books in 2008.
Normally, a maximum of two swimmers per country are allowed to race at SC Worlds in the same event; however, Steenbergen received a World Aquatics wild card slot, so we’ll see this trio of Dutch athletes vying for splash n’ dash hardware in Beijing.
Already a newly minted national record holder in the 100m free, 24-year-old Sean Niewold doubled up with a victory in the 50m free, boasting a time of 20.88.
Niewold’s earlier season effort of 21.11 from the Tashkent stop of the World Cup already qualified him for SC Worlds, but his time here in Rotterdam further solidified his selection in a new meet record to boot.
The women’s 100m fly saw Femke Spiering get the job done for gold, notching 57.14 to add her name to the Netherlands’ SC Worlds roster.
Finally, visiting Olympic champion Tatjana Smith of South Africa completed her sweep of the women’s breaststroke, capturing the top spot in the 50m sprint in a time of 29.54. That sliced .15 off the previous meet record of 29.69 logged by Rosey Metz five years ago.
