GOLETA, Calif. (KEYT) - A group of local voters skipped the beach Labor Day Saturday and headed to a local brewery, not for social reasons but political.
Draughtsmen Aleworks in Goleta hosted a "Postcards from Paradise" Get Out the Vote event.
"I did this in 2024 and this is an advocacy pack called "Postcards to Swing States," said Joni Kelly, who organized the event. "Basically, they tested the messaging that gets people to the polls."
The so-called advocacy pack came with 2,000 postcards; volunteers provided the stamps.
Those participating in the local, grassroots effort were encouraged to handwrite personal messages to be mailed to Democratic voters in four specific battleground states, urging them to get out of their homes and head to the polls for November's General Election.
One volunteer said Saturday's event was a first for this group.
"The more people are encouraged to get out and vote, the more there is an opportunity for us to change direction of where we're going today," said Andrew Lester, a Santa Barbara resident. "And I feel change is required."
cards were tailored for Wisconsin, Nevada, North Carolina and California's 48th District which includes Temecula, Murrieta and, portions of Escondido.
