The 2026 Para Pan Pacific wrapped up on Sunday, and with it came more world record-breaking swims and plenty of payouts from the “Stronger than you Think” fund.
American Evan Wilkerson downed the men’s S11 100 backstroke world record not once, but twice on the final day. He initially touched in 1:04.84 in the prelims, then took another two seconds off that time, blasting a 1:02.62 in the finals. Wilkerson’s guide dog, Olivia, also received a special world-record bandana, along with a $10,000 bonus for Wilkerson for the world-record swim.
Entering this meet, the world record stood at 1:05.14, set last summer in Singapore by Spain’s Albert Gelis.
Several American Records were also taken down on the final day of action, as Katie Kubiak continued her stellar outing in the women’s S5 200 IM, shattering the national mark in the prelims in 3:29.68, more than 13 seconds quicker than the previous standard, before later dropping it by more than two seconds in the finals in 3:27.29.
Another women’s 200 IM American Record went down on Sunday, this time at the hands of Piper Sadowski in the SM14 classification, touching in 2:44.68. That same evening, she notched another record in the S14 1000 backstroke in 1:12.99.
Olivia Chambers managed to secure her third American Record of the meet in the women’s S12 50 free, initially clocking a new record in 38.50 in prelims before a near two-tenths-of-a-second drop in finals to 28.34.
Ali Truwit got in on the fun for Team USA, lowering her own American Record in the women’s S10 100 back, swimming to a silver medal in 1:08.40; fellow American Gia Pergolini joined her on the podium as the bronze medalist in 1:06.21.
Australia’s Rowan Corothers held off a pair of fellow Australians to win the men’s S10 50 free in 23.27, just ahead of teammates Tom Gallagher (23.46) and Alexander Tuckfield (24.01), giving the Australians a big sweep of the podium.
Brazil’s Gabriel Bandeira took home gold for Brazil in the men’s SM14 200 IM, finishing just over half a second ahead of Canada’s Nick Bennet (2:07.63) in 2:06.94.
