PHELPS, N.Y. — Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies say a 4-year-old boy is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Golisano Children’s Hospital after drowning in a pool Wednesday.
Deputies say they responded to a home in Phelps Wednesday for the report of a 4-year-old found unresponsive in a pool. They say crews got there and found family members and a neighbor performing CPR on the child.
Emergency responders took over life-saving efforts and worked on scene for about 25 minutes before the boy was brought to Clifton Springs Hospital, deputies say. On the way to the hospital, deputies say the boy regained a pulse.
According to deputies, staff at the hospital worked to stabilize the boy for about an hour. They say within that hour, the boy’s pulse and blood pressure returned and were stable.
The boy was then flown by Mercy Flight Central to Strong Memorial Hospital. Deputies say as of Thursday morning, the boy is in guarded condition in Pediatric Intensive Care.
Deputies say it is believed the boy was out of sight between 5-15 minutes before he was found in the pool. The sheriff’s office is still investigating.
