Police in suburban South Holland are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a hit and run driver early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Just after 12 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to the 100 block of East 173rd Street near the Babe Ruth baseball field for the report of a deceased male lying in the roadway.
The victim was identified as Cornell Carpenter, 59, of South Holland. Police said he was dragged after being struck by the vehicle.
Police are urging the driver involved to turn themselves in to law enforcement.
Investigators said evidence found at the scene suggest the suspect vehicle may have sustained visible damage, such as front-end damage or broken lights.
