Linkin Park ‘Unshatter’ Film Documents Comeback Story ‘Unfolding in Real Time’: Watch the Trailer

Nearly a decade after Linkin Park‘s world changed forever, the band is telling its comeback story on the big screen.

On Tuesday (Aug. 4), the rock group announced that Unshatter — a new documentary directed by band member Joe Hahn — will arrive in theaters worldwide starting Sept. 30. The film follows Linkin Park’s journey as the band roughly navigated their comeback after a seven-year hiatus, chronicling the period leading up to the release of the 2024 album From Zero and their performance in São Paulo, Brazil.

As one of the defining rock bands of the 21st century, Linkin Park amassed multiple No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and placed dozens of songs on the Billboard Hot 100. According to the announcement, Unshatter combines behind-the-scenes footage, live performances, archival clips and new interviews with the band’s members and fans. The film will be an intimate look into the group’s creative process and what it was like following the 2017 death of vocalist Chester Bennington. The documentary also explores the addition of vocalist Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain, whose arrival signaled the beginning of Linkin Park’s most recent career moves.

Ahead of the film’s theatrical debut, the band will release Unshatter Film Soundtrack (Live in São Paulo) on Sept. 25. The live album will feature performances spanning Linkin Park’s discography, including songs not featured in the documentary. Fans can already hear the live version of “Somewhere I Belong,” with pre-orders for the soundtrack available now.

Hahn, who directed the film, said the project evolved organically after cameras were initially brought in to document the band’s São Paulo concert.

“What started as filming one show slowly became something much bigger,” Hahn said in a statement. “We kept realizing there was a story unfolding in real time as we figured out what the future of Linkin Park would look like.”

The filmmaker explained that he wanted the documentary to showcase the uncertainty the band experienced during its comeback rather than tell the story with the benefit of hindsight. Having lived through the events as both a bandmate and director, Hahn said the goal was to present an honest account of the conversations, challenges and creative breakthroughs that influenced the band’s return.

He also described the film as a tribute to Linkin Park’s fans, saying he hopes longtime supporters will gain a deeper understanding of the band’s hardships while introducing new audiences to the group’s progression.

Unshatter begins its limited theatrical run on Sept. 30, with additional screenings expanding to select cities worldwide following the release. Watch the trailer below:
