Acquired in a trade for a relief pitcher who did not make the Yankees roster, Rumfield immediately became a sign of a new and improved front office. Twice winning Rookie of the Month honors, Rumfield immediately became a sign of a potentially bright and better future for the team. He isn’t a man of many words, but what he does say is pretty interesting. He became the latest to answer my five-question survey:
What’s most important part of your preferred team game day prep? Is it a meal, workout, listening to music?
TJR: Just bmy hitting routine. I feel like whatever I do in the cage is non-negotiable yeah. Very important part of the day. Whether it’s a drill or just like that time that I have it myself. It’s something I do every day that prepares me for the game both physically and mentally.
What is your ideal off day on a road trip?
TJR: Going to golf with some teammates, just getting out there. Going back to the hotel, taking a nap, calling it a day.
DC: I love that part. Also, Whenever someone answers golf, I always have to ask a follow up. Can you beat Kyle Freeland? I won’t tell him what your answer is.
TJR: Absolutely not… (laughs) …no.
DC: And do you have a favorite course?
TJR: Favorite course? It’s my own course, Trinity Forest in Dallas, TX
What’s your favorite play that you’ve ever made?
TJR: For me, probably quarter finals, football and high school throwing a touchdown to win the game. Yes, probably like my single best sports achievement or moment.
DC: That’s awesome. I love that. TJR: High school football in Texas is like a religion.
What’s your favorite play that you’ve ever seen?
TJR: The best play I’ve ever seen…Foremost exciting, I mean this year Jake McCarthy inside the park home run off of Paul Skenes. That was that was electric. Yeah, that was incredible.
Do you have a favorite baseball quote?
TJR: “Yesterday’s home runs don’t win today’s games.” I think Babe Ruth said that.
