Yellowstone‘s Dutton Ranch spinoff pulled out all the stops with its season 1 finale by having a surprise pregnancy, multiple deaths — and a kidnapping.
During the Friday, July 3, episode of the hit Paramount+ series, Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) took a pregnancy test and found out she was expecting a baby. She didn’t tell Carter (Finn Little) but the couple did reunite and make plans to leave Texas behind.
Oreana’s dad, Rob-Will (Jai Courtney), found her packing her bags, which led to a sentimental father-daughter moment. It didn’t last long, however, because Rob-Will went down to open the door — and was shot by brother Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba).
Carter, meanwhile, was ambushed while he was preparing to go away with Oreana. Joaquin’s father, Mariano (Raoul Max Trujillo), who arrived in town after catching wind of Beulah’s (Annette Bening) operation falling apart, took Carter as a way to lure out Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser).
Which 'Dutton Ranch' Stars Are, Aren't Returning After Season 2 Changes?
The rest of the episode featured a massacre when 10-Petal went up against Dutton Ranch. Season 1 ultimately ended on a cliffhanger as Rip and Beth prepared for battle to save their son.
Before the finale, Reilly, 48, and Hauser, 51, weighed in on the plan for the hit Paramount+ series, telling The Hollywood Reporter that they were both interested in returning for multiple seasons.
Emerson Miller/Paramount+.“If the writing is good. You never want to hold on too tightly in this profession, right?” Reilly said. “So honestly, we’re very grateful to be here and if we get a chance to keep making something we’re proud of, then we’re here. If not, we’re both working actors and we’ll be fine.”
Hauser called it “pretty cool” to keep going, adding, “I always feel like if the audience continues to speak the way that they have about the show for the last 10 years or so, then I would love to continue to entertain them.”
What the Cast of Yellowstone's ‘Dutton Ranch’ Spinoff Look Like in Real Life
Season 2 is expected to look a bit different, however, after Us Weekly confirmed that Chad Feehan will not return as showrunner after completing work on season 1. Puck News previously reported that Feehan stepped away from Dutton Ranch after alleged friction with series stars Hauser and Reilly, among others.
“Showrunners change all the time,” Hauser told The Hollywood Reporter. “This business is about adapting.”
He continued: “We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.”
Reilly had a similar outlook on the shakeup. “It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make,” she said. “And so was Yellowstone.”
Looking ahead, the actress wanted to focus on the positive. “So is anything worth making,” she concluded. “We’re all creative minds and we all work together and I’m so proud of that.”
