Athletes are also competing for the right to represent their Home Nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland at this year’s Commonwealth Games, so more than just championship titles are on the line.
Already tonight, we were treated to 31-year-old veteran James Guy‘s head-turning swim in the men’s 400m free, with the Olympic multi-gold medalist ripping a time of 3:44.04 to put his longstanding British national record in jeopardy.
Olympic teammate Adam Peaty posted a mark of 58.97, his fastest since the Paris Olympic Games, to take his signature 100m breaststroke, showing he’s back in form after missing last year’s championship season.
The women’s 200m fly saw Keanna MacInnes‘ winning time of 2:07.02 come within .09 of her lifetime best, to kick off her campaign.
Below is a round-up of roster updates from day one of the championships, although, with discretionary picks on the table, we’ll need to wait until the dust settles from this competition for the final lineups.
