The SEC, which has long been at the forefront of stretching and reformatting its conference championship meet, with other conferences often following suit eventually, has released its 2027 championship format.
The 2027 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held February 14-20 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas on the University of Texas campus.
The new look schedule will stretch the meet from six days to seven. Rather than having diving intermingled throughout the schedule with swimming, diving will be held Sunday through Wednesday (Days 1-4), leaving a swimming-only event for Thursday through Saturday (Days 5-7).
This is an experiment that NCAA coaches will watch closely, as one of the leading proposals for making the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships more television friendly has been to move diving to the start of the meet, before swimming begins.
This new SEC schedule isn’t exactly that. Rather, it reduces 6 days of overlap to just 2 days of overlap, with divers competing for 4 days and swimmers competing for dive days.
In this sense, while the meet as a whole will now take longer, in theory, each group of athletes could miss less school (if they choose). Previously, swimmers and divers both had 5 days of competition. Now, divers have 4 days of competition and swimmers have 5 days of competition.

It still does not resemble the NCAA Championship schedule particularly closely, however.
The SEC says that they don’t have estimated timelines because it is a new format and they’re unsure as to how that will impact entries, but on balance, it should reduce the duration of the ‘prime time’ swimming sessions on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Major college swimming meets almost always see an uptick in attendance as they move into the weekend.
It’s also unclear if there will still be a break in the schedule where diving events used to be.
The SEC format, because of its fewer events-per-night, already moved at a relatively quick pace as compared to other dual-gender conferences.
While streaming data is not publicly available for conference championship meets, SwimSwam’s traffic data shows that the SEC Conference consistently has the most public interest.
The University of Texas men edged out Florida and Tennessee to win the 2026 men’s swimming & diving title, while on the women’s side, the Texas women dominated Tennessee and Florida, in that order.
