After its widely-acclaimed season 1, Alien: Earth season 2 is shaping up, with Game of Thrones legend Peter Dinklage being the first major new cast member to join the fray.
The actor, who starred as Tyrion Lannister in HBO's beloved fantasy series, will be a series regular in the second season of Noah Hawley's sci-fi drama.
There are no further details about Dinklage's role, although production is set to begin next month at Pinewood Studios, so perhaps more details will emerge then.
Set two years before Ridley Scott's iconic film Alien, the series revolves around a group of terminally ill children, including Sydney Chandler's Wendy, whose consciousnesses are transferred into adult synthetic bodies – and who have to face the planet's biggest threat.
Alongside Chandler, the first season of Alien: Earth also starred Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El.
When the series was officially renewed for season 2, FX Chairman John Landgraf said in a statement: "It has been our great privilege to work with Noah for more than a decade on some of FX’s best and biggest shows, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership well into the future.
"Noah never stops surprising us with truly original stories – and his unique ability to bring them to vibrant life as a director and producer as well as writer makes him extraordinary.
"We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth, as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development."
