The Blackhawks had him in the press box in San Jose, and a season that started seemingly well has now gotten to the point that there might not be a good return scenario. Yes, the Blackhawks need to get to the salary floor next year. And yes, Burakovsky’s $5.5M cap hit could have been part of that equation. But, as I’ve written before, the addition of Andrew Mangiapane to the mix with his cap hit as a potential 13th forward for next year makes a buyout more feasible. The buyout calculator at PuckPedia informs us that Burakovsky would be on the books for $3M next year and $1.25M in 2027-28 if the Blackhawks opt to use that route to walk away this summer.
