The Denver Broncos survived a scare on Sunday against a banged-up Los Angeles Chargers team as the defense came up big in the fourth quarter and powered the offense out of a hole.

The Denver Broncos almost let Sunday’s game slip away from them against the Los Angeles Chargers and it was very reminiscent of the first Fast and Furious movie.
Brian O’Connor told Dominic Toretto, “Dude, I almost had you.” O’Connor would be the Chargers, and Toretto, the Broncos. “You almost had me? You never even had your car,” Torretto said. O’Connor would go on to owe Torretto a 10-second car after losing the race.
Despite the Broncos offense looking like a 10-minute car instead of a 10-second car, they found a way to get past the finish line.
Trailing 10-17 in the fourth quarter, Denver’s defense gave Bo Nix and the Broncos offense some NOS after stuffing Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense on 4th and 1, giving Denver’s offense the ball at the Chargers’ 41-yard line.
Nix, who was in an all-game funk, fired a shot to Courtland Sutton for a wide-open touchdown to tie the game.
Then, Zach Allen created a pressure rush inside on Justin Herbert, which led to a strip-sack after a Chargers offensive lineman cleated the ball out of Herbert’s hands, and Denver took over possession at the Chargers’ 32-yard line, which resulted in a Wil Lutz field goal, giving them a 20-17 lead.
Safety Brandon Jones would come up big on the Chargers’ ensuing possession, intercepting Justin Herbert and giving Denver’s offense the ball at the Chargers’ 34-yard line, where they ran the ball well enough to drain the clock and kick another field goal to go up 23-17.
Denver’s defense was able to play back and keep everything in front of them as the Chargers were up against the clock with no timeouts and Ja’Quan McMillian was able to call game with a last second sack of Herbert.
Denver improves to 3-2 on the season, but the concerns with the offense have to be addressed on a short week as the team gets ready to welcome the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football with very little turnaround time.
