The NFL season won’t kick off for 167 days. Whether the Bears are playing in that opening night throwdown in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks is still to be determined. But no matter when Chicago’s football team kicks off, I will enter the year having a good feeling about Colston Loveland and his trajectory moving forward.

Loveland had a phenomenal rookie season in Chicago. He led the team in catches (58) and receiving yards (713), while tying with Rome Odunze and D.J. Moore for the most touchdown receptions (6) among Bears pass-catchers. The University of Michigan product rewrote the playoff rookie record books as part of a breakout campaign in 2025 that saw him and his fellow rookie classmates in Chicago the best grade of any 2025 NFL Draft class. Not bad for a player who entered the draft with injury concerns and was slow out of the gate when the regular season kicked off last September.

Admittedly, my mind is quite baseball-centric because MLB’s Opening Day is happening a few blocks from where I am. And yet, there is a part of my mind that can’t stop thinking about what Colston Loveland will do for an encore. I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that way.
