The Labra Brothers band is ready to make its “Move.”
The Youngstown group will use its slot headlining this year’s The Summit FM’s 330 Day Concert to preview music from its upcoming album.
Adrian Labra said the self-titled album is completed, but before it’s available, the band plans to release several singles, starting with “The Move” in April. It was made at Court Street Recording in Canfield.
“We’ve got a nine-song album we’re sitting on right now,” Labra said. “We spent most of 2025 working on it … We consider this just an awesome opportunity, anytime we’re involved in 330 Day, and it’s an honor to headline. And we have been internally discussing for a while how to properly roll out these songs.
“We got the final masters right at the end of the year. Once we had it in hand, we had already gone a couple months without playing live and we haven’t played since then, so it kind of feels appropriate to come back to the live stage, especially with a great platform like this one, to come out with some some new stuff to show folks that we’ve been working on. We’re excited about the new material and the direction that we’re taking with it.”
“The Move” definitely will get listeners moving, and the band thought it was a good introduction to the new music. While many of the band’s early songs showcased the harmonies of brothers Adrian, Cristian and David Labra, the new songs emphasize the Latin funk rhythms of their Mexican heritage.
“It’s pretty representative of the album,” Labra said. “It’s about coming out of a slump. I don’t consider what we’ve been going through as a slump necessarily, but we have gone a while without playing live, and the song’s about exactly that. It’s about coming out of hibernation and realizing that the world needs you back out there, needs you to get over whatever you’re going through. The world needs your swagger out there, needs you to get out there and bust a move and show your face.
“The groovy tune features some trumpet, and trumpet has become a non-negotiable part of our live set going forward. We’re graduating from a six piece to a seven piece. The horn section is very prominent on all the songs on the album, and we can no longer sacrifice that stage.”
Marc Lee Shannon, an Akron area solo artist who also was lead guitar player with Michael Stanley and the Resonators, was hired to produce the new album. The band members had self-produced its earlier releases, in part to prove they could do it, Adrian Labra said. Those recordings helped make The Labra Brothers one of the most played local acts on The Summit and created the opportunity to open for such acts as Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys.
“We’re at a point where we don’t really feel like we can afford to spend so much time and energy and money on a product anymore without doing everything we can to make it the best it can be,” Labra said. “Part of that is getting advice and guidance from trusted friends.
“He (Shannon) has really pushed us, which I can’t say enough about. We appreciate it so much. The push to up our game in every aspect — work in the right places, with the right people, with the best possible gear, with the best possible experience — to give us the best possible chance at success. I’m really proud of what we put together.”
Another Akron musician, Michael Weber, also contributed keyboards and guitar during the recording sessions.
While the band is coming off of a long hiatus, The Labra Brothers have nearly 20 dates booked this spring and summer and more singles planned for release.
The 330 Day Concert (held annually on March 30, is an event started by The Summit in 2016 to launch its digital radio station that exclusively plays music from area artists. The concert and the station definitely have had an impact on the band’s success.
“I can’t even count the number of opportunities that have come to us, in one form or another, from The Summit,” Labra said. “Because of their willingness to platform our music and get it out there into the world, people hear us. They may reach out for a private event, they may buy our merch from our website, other bands may hear us and reach out to collaborate on a show. It’s had a lot of downstream impact that’s really hard to quantify.”
Joining the Labra Brothers for this year’s 330 Day Concert is Demos Papadimas Band, Black Wolf & the Thief, Adam Remnant, Barry Carroll, Ceci Taylor and the Fitch Rock Band with each act playing short sets.
Papadimas is playing his fourth 330 Day Concert, and he’s excited to have his band with him, instead of playing in a solo or duo arrangement. That will allow him to showcase both the electric and acoustic sounds of the group as well as its Greek influence with Papadimas playing bouzouki on some originals.
“It’s nice, because it really is great exposure for regionally based artists, and it allows us to get onto bigger stages than we’re normally used to playing,” he said. “The exposure is just great. It really introduces you to a new audience that isn’t frequenting the (local) music venues. I can’t say enough great things about 330 Day. It really summarizes what’s so great about The Summit and how they’ve supported the local music scene.”
And while it’s fun for the audience, Papadimas said it’s even more fun for the musicians.
“I really like the backstage connections with all the other artists, he said. “There’s a camaraderie there.”
