Four Blackhawks Prospect Ready for OHL Playoffs

The Chicago Blackhawks had four prospects skating in the OHL this season, and it was a successful season. All three teams that had an active Blackhawks prospect on their roster won their respective division title, with the top spot in the Eastern and Western Conferences going to teams with a Chicago prospect leading the way in goals.

The OHL playoffs begin on Thursday, March 26th. Here’s where things stack up for the three teams with Blackhawks prospects in action.

    Note: the Blackhawks also have defense prospect Ty Henry in the OHL with Erie, but he missed the entire season because of an injury suffered during training camp in Chicago.

    Brantford Bulldogs

    Blackhawks prospects: Marek Vanacker, Parker Holmes

    The Brantford Bulldogs both the Hamilton Spectator Trophy (Regular Season Champion) and Leyden Trophy (East Division Champion) this season and are the No. 1 seed on the Eastern Conference playoffs. Their lineup was an absolute wagon, led by Vanacker winning the OHL goal title with 47 this season. Brantford had six different players with at least 28 goals in their lineup, while their captain, Jake O’Brien, led the league in assists (65) and points-per-game (1.75).

    Blackhawks prospect: Jack Pridham

    The Kitchener Rangers won the Holody Trophy (Midwest Division Champion) and are the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference of the OHL. Pridham was their offensive leader, placing second in the OHL in goals (46) behind only Vanacker. Pridham also finished tied for third in power play goals (16) and tied for second in short-handed goals (6), behind his teammate, Sam O’Reilly.

    Windsor Spitfires

    Blackhawks prospect: AJ Spellacy

    The Windsor Spitfires won the Bumbacco Trophy (West Division Champion) and are the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Spellacy missed the last few games of the regular season dealing with a lower-body injury, something that wasn’t unique to him. The Spitfires also lost Ethan Belchetz and Nathan Villeneuve to injuries down the stretch. Spellacy finished the season with 13 goals and 19 assists in 51 games for Windsor while also representing the US at the World Junior Championship.
