Arizona State men’s basketball’s special assistant Ty Larson is set to become a JUCO men’s basketball coach at Casper College, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.
Tipton added that Larson has quickly built a strong résumé, with time at Texas and Texas Tech before his tenure at ASU.
The 27-year-old will get his first head coaching opportunity about 50 miles west of Douglas, Wyoming, where he grew up and played high school basketball.
After his playing days at Douglas High School, Larson played two seasons at Eastern Wyoming College, which is about 112 miles from his hometown and 150 miles from Casper College.
Then Larson began his coaching career in 2019, with his stops at Texas Tech and Texas before spending two seasons as ASU’s special assistant under former coach Bobby Hurley.

Larson spent three years with the Longhorns (2022-2024) and two years with the Red Raiders (2019-21).
During Larson’s time at Texas, he spent two years as a graduate assistant and was elevated to director of recruiting in August 2023.
Larson earned the Longhorns the No. 11 recruiting class in his year as the director and thrived in the transfer portal, helping Texas land Tramon Mark and Jordan Pope, who have been stars in the Longhorns’ Sweet 16 run in the NCAA Tournament.
While at Texas, Larson worked with Rodney Terry, Chris Beard, Frank Haith and current ASU assistant coach Jerrance Howard.
Before Larson’s time with the Longhorns, he started his coaching career as a student assistant with Texas Tech.
