Wrightsell and Allen no-shows in Alabama’s loss to Ole Miss

Alabama men’s basketball finished its trip to Nashville for the SEC Tournament one-and-done, falling 80-79 to Ole Miss on Friday.

Philon, Holloway and Sherrell combined for 60 of the Crimson Tide’s 79 points, getting little help from stars Latrell Wrightsell Jr. and Amari Allen, who combined for a mere 5 points.

Wrightsell finished the night 0/5 from the field for no points. It was the first game the senior guard failed to score in since a December 2023 loss to No. 8 Creighton.

In fact, following arguably the best streak of his career, Wrightsell is 0/9 from beyond the arc in his last two games.

Forward Amari Allen ended his night with just 5 points on 2/8 shooting.

Since scoring 23 points on 80% shooting against Mississippi State, the star freshman has failed to reach double digits in three of his last four games.

The one silver lining to Allen’s night was his 11 second half rebounds, half of the Crimson Tide’s total in the half.

“It wasn’t just the younger guys,” head coach Nate Oats said. “Some of our older guys didn’t give us the effort we needed in the first half either.”

Senior Houston Mallette’s mere 3 points and freshman London Jemison’s failure to score didn’t help Alabama’s comeback effort either.

Alabama basketball will be back in action in the NCAA Tournament next week. Game date, tip time, and opponents will be revealed during Sunday’s Selection Show at 5 p.m. CT on CBS.
