Cubs Lineup — This afternoon, the Cubs have a chance to do two things for the first time this spring: (1) Beat the White Sox, who’ve taken each of the first two matchups in the Cactus League, and (2) Get to .500 (currently 9-10). Neither hurdle is particularly important to overcome, but it would be nice.
This game will be broadcast on both TV and radio, but it’ll be the White Sox coverage on CHSN and ESPN 1000. Better than nothing! Here’s a look at the Cubs lineup for this Friday afternoon.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
Michael Busch, DH Miguel Amaya, C Michael Conforto, LF Chas McCormick, RF Moises Ballesteros, 1B Owen Miller, 2B BJ Murray, 3B Kane Kepley, CF Ben Cowles, SSI’m glad we’ll have some eyes on this game today, because there are two notable lineup decisions: First, Moises Ballesteros is getting a rare start at first base.
Considering that he, like Michael Busch, is a lefty, I doubt there’ll be many starting opportunities at first for Ballesteros this season, but it’s good to see him get some exposure there juuuuuuust in case. If there were an injury to Michael Busch, Ballesteros’ ability to play first would dramatically increase the Cubs lineup and defensive alignment options.
Second, the Cubs 2025 second-rounder – and a potential helium guy this year – Kane Kepley is drawing a rare big league start. Kepley had a INSANE proferssional debut last season, though you might expect that from a polished college bat at A-Ball. But still: .299/.481/.433 (180 wRC+) with a 19.1% walk rate and an 11.5% strikeout rate. LOL. Get him to Double-A with an eye on Triple-A by the end of the year, in my (aggressive) opinion.
