Caleb Williams Already Knows What’s on His Offseason To-Do List

I want to see Caleb Williams quarterback the Bears to the Super Bowl. If you are reading this, the odds are high that you want that, too. But what will it take for Chicago’s QB1 to reach The Big Game. Well, a lot, actually. Good thing Williams already has an idea of what he needs to work on to take his game to another level. And he has plenty of time to work on it between now and when the regular season kicks off in November.

Caleb Williams is coming off one of the best seasons anyone has ever had as a Chicago Bears quarterback. He surpassed Erik Kramer’s franchise record for single-season passing yards, throwing for 3,942 yards. Falling short of the 4,000-yard mark means that reaching that number is on next year’s to-do list. Williams also cooked up seven fourth-quarter comebacks in the 19 games he played in the regular-season and playoffs. Watching The Iceman made for the most fun Bears season we’ve had in a looooooong time.

Seeing Caleb Williams post big numbers and establish himself as one of the league’s most clutch performers is nice. I feel better about Williams going into 2026 than I did about him going into 2025 — and I felt pretty good about his future because he was going to be working with Ben Johnson as his head coach. However, it feels like there is another level for Williams to reach in 2026. Putting in the necessary work this offseason should help him elevate his game a notch or two. But what does that look like?

This is what Chicago’s QB1 had to say when looking toward the offseason ahead:

From Courtney Cronin (via Twitter/X): Caleb Williams said he will work on his accuracy and footwork this offseason and then plans to do work with his teammates before the team returns for the offseason program. “It’s get with the receivers and work with them throughout the offseason so that we’re on the same page. We’re starting off hot for training camp OTAs and then going into next season.” A quote from Caleb Williams, via ESPN: “Being able to be in the offense for a year, being able to be comfortable in the offense now, being able to go back and look at things I could have done better. Was I too far forward? Was I too far back? Was I not consistent enough with my footwork? Did I lean off and fall off the mound is what we call it. It’s just super small things to be able to be more consistent for the guys, for the team. Be able to keep the offense on the field as long as possible and be as efficient as possible.” Bonus quote, via Bears Wire: “Just every single rep, every single moment that I have in the offseason that I’m working out or practicing and getting those practice kind of game reps is where my mindset’s going to be.” Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images

Whatever the intricate details of the plan for Caleb Williams’ offseason happen to be, I trust that he will put in the work and be better for it when he starts building up for the 2026 NFL season. What gives me a reason to believe that is the fact that we already saw Williams go into an offseason with a to-do list and improve on things as a second-year quarterback. Think about the things he said he wanted to work on last offseason, then ask yourself if he improved upon said things.

2026 BEARS OFFSEASON: DATES, DEADLINES, AND WHEN TO EXPECT THINGS

For instance, we saw Caleb Williams do a better job of protecting himself — particularly when it came to avoiding sacks. He also did a better job of reading defenses, calling out protections, and attacking vertically down the field. Plus, Williams also learned how to operate from under center, which was a major ask from Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson and a significant undertaking last offseason for a quarterback who had primarily been operating in a shotgun offense for most of his football life. These might seem like small things, but they add up.

In the end, we won’t know if Caleb Williams’ improvements will have stuck until this time next year. So, if you’re the impatient type, the waiting will be the hardest part for you. But for me, I am willing to wait it out to see what next year holds for Chicago’s QB1. After all, I have waited long enough for a quarterback who is good enough to make the most of these improvements. So why wouldn’t I exercise just a wee-bit more patience?
