Day 74 of the Chicago Bears offseason. I have weekend plans that include baking a cake and making my favorite mac and cheese recipe. Here’s hoping you are looking forward to your plans as much as I am looking forward to mine.
ESPN’s Matt Miller shared his list of players who have a first-round grade going into the 2026 NFL Draft. As a Bears fan whose favorite team picks 25th, you might think this list means nothing to you. But it is worth remembering that Luther Burden III was on this list last year, and he fell all the way down to Round 2. At a minimum, it is good to know which players are blue-chip prospects at the start of April before things get muddy in the days leading into NFL Draft weekend. Because you might care: Miller doesn’t have any interior defensive line prospects with first-round grades. However, one (maybe even a few) will be taken on the first night of the NFL Draft. With that being said, I find what Miller says about the position group worth noting:The 2026 defensive tackle class has depth but no real first-round talents after a quiet season from Peter Woods (Clemson) and the failure of the rest of the class to produce pass-rushing talents worthy of a top pick. Though the class doesn’t have a standout talent, there are impressive nose tackle and 1-technique prospects such as Lee Hunter (Texas Tech), Caleb Banks (Florida) and Kayden McDonald (Ohio State) who will push to be top-32 selections.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Ohio State standout Kayden McDonald being the pick for the Bears in Round 1. McDonald doesn’t have the pass-rushing prowess I want from my interior defensive linemen, but he eats blocks and defends the run in a way that could make him a valuable piece of the defensive puzzle. Don’t get me wrong. Chicago still needs help off the edge. But pass-rushers can’t make an impact if the defense isn’t in pass-rush situations. McDonald’s presence on early downs could open things up for guys on the edge on later downs. Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images This list of undervalued NFL Draft prospects by JP Acosta (CBS Sports) caught my attention because it included several players at positions the Bears should consider drafting a player at later this month. Among the most intriguing potential fits whose profiles grabbed my attention were Oklahoma defensive tackle Gracen Halton, Arizona safety Treydan Stukes, UCF EDGE Malachi Lawrence, Texas A&M offensive lineman Trey Zuhn III, and Georgia Tech offensive lineman Keylan Rutledge. CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones on the Bears as they approach decision time on their new stadium:I don’t get the impression Bears president Kevin Warren is bluffing about Indiana, either. For a while it was reasonable to assume Indiana and all its tax breaks were being used against Illinois. But after a few days at the league meetings, I would not subscribe to that assumption.
Goodell did not express a preference for where the Bears decide to build a stadium. The focus of the league is for the Bears to get a state-of-the-art stadium, wherever it may be. But it is hard to believe the league wants to see a founding member team like the Bears move across state lines, even if it would just be for 10 or so home games a year.

Some fun digging from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, who unearths who the Las Vegas Raiders are taking advantage of a loophole to pay new quarterback Kirk Cousins. San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan says he knows “for a fact” that the Los Angeles Rams pushed for their Week 1 game to be played in Australia. And when you consider how Niners fans take over So-Fi Stadium when the NFC West rivals play, you can understand why the Rams would weasel their way into a neutral site game. Now, that is what I call gamesmanship! Long-time star cornerback Stephon Gilmore announced his retirement with a nice little video recap of his career:?? pic.twitter.com/o2KI8rOHih
— The Gilly Lock (@BumpNrunGilm0re) April 2, 2026 The Buffalo Bills used their first-round pick (10th overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft to take Gilmore, who would go on to have a tremendous NFL career. Gilmore played 180 games (173 starts) in his 13-year career that began in Buffalo (2012-16) and featured stops with the New England Patriots (2017-2020), Carolina Panthers (2021), Indianapolis Colts (2022), Dallas Cowboys (2023), and Minnesota Vikings (2024). From 2016-20, there was a case to be made for Gilmore being the NFL’s best defensive back. That six-year run saw him make five Pro Bowls, earn first-team All-Pro honors twice, and win the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award in 2019. I wonder if he has a Hall of Fame case with that résumé.It is going to be absolutely bonkers when a playoff game ends on an ABS challenge:
