Diamondbacks announce spring training roster featuring top prospects

The Arizona Diamondbacks revealed their 2026 spring training roster on Friday, and top prospect Ryan Waldschmidt will join the clubhouse with the team’s major league stars.

Waldschmidt, infielder Tommy Troy, infielder LuJames Groover, outfielder Druw Jones and pitcher Daniel Eagen highlight the prospects who were invited to camp, non-roster invitees who are not on the 40-man team but invited to train with the big leaguers at Salt River Fields.

Pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 10, and the first full squad workouts are on Feb. 15. Arizona’s Cactus League opener is on Feb. 20 against the Colorado Rockies.

Waldschmidt, the No. 31 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, made his way to Double-A Amarillo last year and put together one of the hottest summers in the minor leagues. The right-handed-hitting outfielder won Texas League Player of the Month for August after putting up a 1.143 OPS, 13 extra-base hits and 12 steals in 26 games.

In 66 games with Amarillo, he hit .309 with a .921 OPS, nine home runs and 19 steals, working his way up national prospect lists and creating some big-league buzz for 2026. He is considered Arizona’s lone consensus top 100 prospect entering 2026.

Troy, Arizona’s first-round pick from 2023, put together a healthy, bounce-back season in 2025, reaching Triple-A Reno. The middle infielder hit 15 home runs with 24 steals in 125 minor league games. He received reps in center field to add to his versatility.

Groover, who participated in MLB camp last spring, spent all of 2026 in Double-A, where he hit .309 with an .833 OPS and played mostly third base.

The Diamondbacks revamped their infield by trading for third baseman Nolan Arenado to join shortstop Geraldo Perdomo and second baseman Ketel Marte. The outfield, aside from Corbin Carroll, is less certain, opening the door for competition in camp.

Blaze Alexander, Jordan Lawlar, Tim Tawa and Jorge Barrosa are on the 40-man roster and will compete for roles this spring.

When asked whether a player who has yet to make his MLB debut could compete for an outfield job, general manager Mike Hazen said, “Yes.”

“ I’m not gonna elaborate on it. Yes, there’s some guys in our system that could come in and challenge for spots on the major league team,” Hazen said on Jan. 10.

The bullpen will also lend to competition, both in terms of making the roster and fighting for roles without a definite closer. Derek Law and Jonathan Loaisiga are noteworthy non-roster invitees as veteran relievers with a solid track record when healthy.

The Diamondbacks will have to cut down the roster to 26 players by Opening Day.
