The Arizona Diamondbacks have reportedly agreed to a minor league contract with former Washington Nationals right-handed reliever Derek Law, according to MLB insider Robert Murray.
Murray added in his report that the deal will pay $1.5 million if Law stays up in the majors and includes a spring training invite. He can also earn up to $500,000 in potential incentives.
Law is a 35-year-old veteran who most recently pitched in the majors in 2024 for Washington, making 75 appearances and totaling a 2.60 ERA and a save in 90 innings pitched.
He went on the 15-day injured list late in that season for a right elbow flexor strain. The 6-foot-3 reliever was on rehab assignment for the Double-A Harrisburg Senators and Triple-A Rochester Red Wings in June 2025 (four total appearances) before being placed on the 60-day injured list for right forearm inflammation.
Law, who has a career 3.69 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in MLB, took his chances with free agency in November and now has his shot with Arizona.

Diamondbacks report dates for spring training announced
The veteran of six MLB teams is the latest move the D-backs have made this offseason in an effort to bolster their bullpen with a pair of flamethrowers in Justin Martinez and A.J. Puk still recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Law has the opportunity to join righties Taylor Clarke, a 2015 Arizona draft selection who signed a one-year deal, and Josh Grosz, a Colorado Rockies pitching prospect who came over in the Jake McCarthy trade. Grosz, unlike Clarke, is not on the 40-man roster.
Murray reported that Arizona may not be finished dressing the back end of its pitching depth and a Zac Gallen return may not be out of the question, as New York Post’s Jon Heyman suggested the D-backs are one of several teams still considering him.
Spring training is right around the corner now, as Arizona pitchers and catchers report to Salt River Fields on Feb. 10 and the club’s first game against the Rockies is on Feb. 20.
