ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police say a man killed a woman Jan. 22 and concealed her body in a St. Paul Street apartment for several days.
Jose Davila, 47, was arrested Wednesday by members of the RPD’s Tactical Unit. He was charged with second-degree murder.
Officers had responded to the apartment building at 125 St. Paul St. to check the welfare of a tenant who had not been seen for at least a week. Police found the body of 57-year-old Maria Benitez, which they say appeared to have been there for several days.
According to police, Davila was staying at Benitez’s apartment and they got into an altercation Jan. 22, in which Davila hit and kicked Benitez around the head. Polie say he concealed the body within the apartment until she was ltimately found.
Neither detectives nor the Monroe County Medical Examiners have been able to locate family for Maria Benitez. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Medical Examiner’s Office at (585) 753-5905.
Davila is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning.
