Jacob Elordi is honoring a years-long promise to take his mom to the Oscars. The 28-year-old actor is nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 98th Academy Awards for his role as the Creature in Guillermo del Toro'sFrankenstein.
Appearing as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Jan. 27, Elordi shared, "I’m going to take mom. I promised her when I was 15 that I would take her, so I have to honor that.”
Elordi, who has said he dreamed of being an actor from a young age, said it only felt right to bring his mother, sharing that she "fully believed in me the whole time."
In fact, the Wuthering Heights actor told Jimmy Kimmel that it was his mother who informed him of his prestigious Oscar nomination.
“I went to bed, and I was asleep comfortably. And then I heard my mom’s phone ring at like 5 a.m., and then her little feet coming up the stairs. Her face sort of told me that I’ve been nominated," he shared.
Elordi's dad was also ready to celebrate the big news, although he was back home in Australia. The pair FaceTimed as his dad popped a bottle of champagne. "He actually knew they were announcing the nominations, and he put a bottle of champagne on ice, and he stayed up til about midnight in Australia, and he called me, and we popped it together on the phone," he added.
Elordi is among a competitive group of nominees that includes Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another), Delroy Lindo (Sinners), Sean Penn (One Battle After Another), and Stellan Skarsgard (Sentimental Value).
Elordi continues a busy year with Wuthering Heights, loosely inspired by Emily Brontë’s novel, set to hit theaters on Feb. 13. He stars as Heathcliff, opposite Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw.
