Bulls fans, it’s game day!
A Central Division matchup is on the card tonight as the Chicago Bulls take on the Indiana Pacers. It’s a matchup that hasn’t exactly been kind to the Windy City this season. But tonight marks the first time these two teams meet since Artūras Karnišovas reportedly signaled his hopes for a ‘playoff push’.
We’re also kicking off a brutal stretch of four games in five days, with the trade deadline looming right around the corner. That means plenty of Bulls content coming your way on Bleacher Nation, and trust me, you’re going to want to stick around for it.
Let’s talk Bulls basketball.
Credit: Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Matas Buzelis, in the midst of a strong sophomore season, was announced as part of the 21-player pool for the Rising Stars Game at All-Star Weekend. A showcase of the league’s future, Buzelis will appear in the game for the third straight year — no small feat. It’s a well-deserved honor for one of the NBA’s young standouts, and one that Matas clearly didn’t take for granted.“Anytime you get an accolade in the NBA, it’s a blessing,” Buzelis said after being named to the Rising Stars player pool.
Last night marked the Rising Stars Draft. Essentially, it was a three-person snake draft from the 21-player pool, with seven players selected per team. The first pick belonged to Carmelo Anthony, who selected Cooper Flagg. Tracy McGrady followed with the second pick, taking Kon Knueppel, while Vince Carter rounded out the top three by selecting VJ Edgecombe. I don’t think many of us expected Matas to be taken in the first round, but there was some curiosity about whether he’d land in the top half or bottom half of the draft. Buzelis ultimately went to Team Vince Carter with the first pick of the fourth round, a selection that speaks to how highly regarded he was among the pool. And the Hall of Famer had plenty of praise for Matas after making the pick.“We want buckets, we want to play fast,” Carter said. “I want to get the ball to athletes — guys who make plays and are fearless. [Matas] is another guy that fits.”

The best part about the way VC’s team is constructed is just how exciting it is. Anyone who’s wondered what Matas might look like next to Derik Queen or Cedric Coward — had the Bulls gone in that direction, is going to get a front-row seat with this group. Pair that with VJ Edgecombe, and you’ve got a couple of athletic freaks ready to put on a show Friday night. The highlights should be flying. Honestly, this team has a real shot to win the entire night, but that’s something we’ll just have to wait and see.? — #NBAAllStar (@NBAAllStar) January 28, 2026 On the Bulls rumor mill, Evan Sidery reiterated that Coby White is still considered expendable by the Chicago Bulls, especially when compared to Ayo Dosunmu. Chicago made the eyebrow-raising announcement that they’re “buying” in an effort to make a playoff push, and yes, that came right before one of the strongest draft classes in years enters the league. The idea, apparently, is that White would be the primary asset used to acquire players who can help them win right now.The Bulls are more likely to trade Coby White than Ayo Dosunmu before the deadline.Chicago is strongly considering signing Dosunmu to an extension this summer rather than trading him.White has generated strong interest during trade season from a handful of contending teams. pic.twitter.com/8AuCHupcUQ
— Evan Sidery (@esidery) January 27, 2026 The problem? The teams linked to Coby White don’t exactly have many true win-now pieces available. Outside of a name like Tari Eason from the Houston Rockets, the trade market feels pretty thin. And frankly, the logic of pushing for the playoffs while sitting around .500 is still hard to wrap your head around. But then again, when has understanding this front office ever been easy? The Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets remain in the mix for Coby White, per @JCowleyHoops pic.twitter.com/G9d4tQe26H
— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) January 27, 2026 Tonight, the Bulls take on the Indiana Pacers in what feels like a must-win game. Indiana sits at the bottom of the East, and Chicago still hasn’t managed to beat them once this season — which only adds to the pressure. Coming off a tough loss to the Lakers, Billy Donovan could look to reinsert Josh Giddey into the starting lineup tonight. Or, he may choose to preserve him with a brutal four-games-in-five-days stretch just getting underway. Either way, it’ll be fascinating to see how many wins this team can scrape together during this run, especially with their depth about to be seriously tested.Gameday in the Hoosier State.⏰ 6:00 pm CT? @CHSN__? @thescorechicago pic.twitter.com/bOYfO9fobh
