Being a Bond Girl Ruined Her Career in Britain
In 1973, Seymour scored the coveted role of psychic Solitaire in Roger Moore’s first Bond film, Live and Let Die. While the film, about the iconic fictional MI6 agent James Bond, went down in history, it also affected Seymour's career in Britain negatively.
“The English could not get past the fact I had been a Bond girl,” Seymour told the UK's Telegraph in a new interview. “I would get through auditions to the final moment when a director would see me for a major part in a major movie, then somebody would say, ‘Did you know she was a Bond girl?’ And that would be it. I would never hear from them again.”
While American casting agents didn't seem to care, it essentially ruined her career in Britain.
“In America, they said, ‘Yes, you did a Bond film,’ but they saw all the other things I had done too.” As a result, she “played only Americans for the first year or so. That was funny. I played people from New York, Ohio, the South, you name it. They didn’t realize I was English, or if they did, they forgot.”

Luckily, Seymour's career recovered, and she went on to acclaimed film and TV roles in projects like East of Eden, Onassis: The Richest Man in the World, and Wedding Crashers. But she also triumphed personally. Seymour is in a relationship with emergency room doctor and musician John Zambetti, 76. The couple met two years ago when they were introduced by their children.
“I honestly never thought I would find a really committed, healthy, lovely, loving relationship at this time of my life, but I’m incredibly blessed that I have,” Seymour told HELLO! back in November. “70 is the new 50.”
Seymour continued, noting how fortunate she feels the couple found each other.
“You’ve had a life. Many lives. And children, and grandchildren, and careers, and ups and downs. You know what you want. I consider both of us so fortunate to have found each other at the time we have, because it wouldn’t have ever worked earlier. He had a different life – his world was medicine and touring, and mine was running around the world making movies,” Seymour told the publication. “I think we met each other at exactly the right time.”
Seymour was even willing to dip into the conversation of sex in the interview.
“In my parents’ generation, and I think a lot of people, they reach a certain age, and they go, ‘That’s not part of our life anymore, and it’s not necessary.’ I just think, with maturity, you understand your body, you understand what feels good, and you have knowledge, so put it down to that,” she noted.
Seymour Decided Against Major Plastic Surgery
Seymour previously opened up about how she was tempted to go under the knife to get a tummy tuck after giving birth to twin boys in 1995. But the actress ultimately decided against it.
“I just thought, ‘No, that’s major surgery,’” Seymour told Fox News Digital. “I thought, let’s try doing what I used to do, my workout routines. I’ll see if I can get my muscles toned. I’m not trying to look like a 20-year-old. I’m just trying to be the most mobile that I can be for my age and what my body’s capable of.”
