VHT round-up: Kohli-less Delhi loses, Padikkal gives Gaikwad fight for ODI spot

The fourth round of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) group stage matches has come to an end. Just like the last games, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was streaming just select matches, and viewers failed to catch live action for most matches. But fear not. InsideSport will run down things for you in depth.

Sarfaraz Khan 2.0

Sarfaraz Khan has unveiled a 2.0 version of himself in white-ball cricket. Days after scoring his maiden T20 hundred, the 28-year-old has smashed the fastest List A hundred for Mumbai. The record was set a week ago, when Rohit Sharma hammered a 62-ball century against Sikkim. Against Goa, Sarfaraz reached his hundred in just 56 balls, toppling Rohit’s record. Sarfaraz ended up scoring 157 (75) while batting at number four, as Mumbai won by 87 runs.

    Gaikwad vs Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal is giving a serious fight to Ruturaj Gaikwad to become India’s middle-order backup batter. The southpaw batter from Karnataka smashed his third century in four matches to become the highest scorer of VHT 2025-26. Gaikwad wasn’t far behind him. The Maharashtra captain struck his first ton of the season against Uttarakhand while batting at number four, his position in the South Africa ODI series.

No Kohli, no party for Delhi

Meanwhile, without Virat Kohli, Delhi lost to Odisha. Chasing 273, the Rishabh Pant-led team was bundled out for 193. Not one batter from Delhi registered a fifty. Spinner Harsh Tyagi turned out to be the highest scorer for them, 43. Hrithik Shokeen was splendid with the ball, 4/27, and also scored 32 with the bat.

    Bengal decimates Jammu & Kashmir

The two biggest surprises of the day were Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir’s defeats. J&K were rolled out for just 63, their lowest List A score, by Bengal’s pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Akash Deep, and Mukesh Kumar. Paras Dogra turned out to be J&K’s highest scorer with 19 runs. Nine batters recorded single-digit scores. Akash and Mukesh took 4 wickets each, while Shami got 2. Bengal chased down the target in just 9.3 overs.
